College of the Canyons Spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone!

This might be a little too early for a thread like this, but I submitted my online application for the spring at COC and I'm so anxious yet excited!

Anyone else here already go ahead and do that? What's everyone's stats who's applying?

I have been studying for the TEAS since May, and it feels so real now that my application is in!

lets get this thread going :)

Anyone get an email yet? The anxiety is insane right now ![/QUO

i check every time i get an email. i set up my COC emails to be sent to my gmail account. With every email i got today i was hoping that it would be from the Nursing program.

I've been using the ATI study guide. I'll study each section, then time myself on each corresponding practice test to make sure I know the info and can perform it within the time limits. The math section seems fine but the science portion is a bit random.

yes, science seems to be all over the place. I though that science was my strongest, but it has been my one of my weak points. Math and reading seems pretty straight forward. i been timing myself as well but i seem to finish about 10 to 12 minutes of extra time. The only one that i am trying to watch my time is with reading because i have heard that the passages are longer.

When I took the actual TEAS, I scored an 88% in science. I literally have no idea how I did that because it definitely was all over the place haha. It's all in the question though, really. And as long as you have a strong basis in the core science courses you guys can over come the randomness that is science!

As for the timing of the TEAS, I will say, I was finishing with extra time on the practice myself and on the real one the only one I cut it super close with was math, finishing with 3 minutes left!

The ATI study manual and the "secrets of the teas" manual were like my study bible since May. I was scoring rather low myself on the practice tests and was very anxious for the real one but was so relieved when I got my score.

You guys are smart people already for being this far, I believe in you guys to do super well next Friday

Thank you for your encouragement. I believe that you can apply for the COC csun bridge program. As long as you have statistics done before February 18th. I am currently taking statistics and taking History in Winter session and my Counselor ---------------------- said that i could apply for the bridge program in February. The emails are supposed to go out today :) i cant check my email enough!!!

I finished all the prereqs required for the bridge except for chemistry, do you know if am I still considered eligible?

I'm honestly not too sure about that. Considering it is a pre req for the BSN they might see it as ineligible for the bridge, but I wouldn't see why that would affect the generic ADN program admissions though.

They're so helpful in that office though, I'm sure if you called and asked they would tell you straight up

I know for sure it doesn't effect admission for the ADN program, I just wasn't sure about the BSN bridge. I'll look into it.

Ah that's awesome you're in the cohort program! I wanted to do that but I only have calculus done, not stats so my pre reqs couldn't cut it ):

Is the first semester really hectic? If I get in I'm trying to figure out how or if I'll still be able to manage my job and I know the beginning of things are always the most intense and just a lot at once. ):

First semester is the most hectic. Unless they have changed it you will be at school everyday Mon-Fri. I have worked anywhere from 15-32 hrs the whole time I've been in the program which includes the Summer Schools at CSUN. It is totally doable. My friend did the same.

If you're referring to the BSN CSUN cohort then yes you need to have completed chemistry before you start the actual BSN program. A couple of my classmates took it over winter so they could do the program. The first thing to do is to make sure you are eligible to apply for CSUN then go from their. I know some wanted to do CSUN but didn't have all there classes to actually transfer to the actual university. Does that make sense?

PS. I think the practice TEAS test were way harder than the actual TEAS so you should all be fine. I only took like 3 practice test and just practiced what I scored low on. To give you some perspective on my test the two subjects I thought I would score best on I actually did the worst and vice versa. The ones I thought I would do the worst on I did the best on.

The biggest thing is time management and not dwelling on any one question. I almost ran out of time in two sections and some of my classmates actually didn't answer some because they ran out of time.

Oh really? My problem is that I live and work in Thousand Oaks which is far from COC so the commute takes me time and my work schedule is Mon-Fri 9-4 haha /: I'll basically have to take the semester off work or find a way to get a new job in the evenings.

Yeah I work too and I am wondering if I am going to still be able to work when school starts or if I going to have to quit.

Doesn't look like we will be receiving emails today. On the website it says they extended the status updates till 9/29. Yay more waiting.
