College of the Canyons Spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone!

This might be a little too early for a thread like this, but I submitted my online application for the spring at COC and I'm so anxious yet excited!

Anyone else here already go ahead and do that? What's everyone's stats who's applying?

I have been studying for the TEAS since May, and it feels so real now that my application is in!

lets get this thread going :)

So I just got back from taking the TEAS.

I took it at a PSI testing center, so I have to wait for my results "within 48 business hours" - so, so annoying because I want to know my score now!

Anyway, it definitely sucked the life out of me because of the anxiety I had over taking it! However, if you had used the ATI Manual, purchased the ATI online practice forms, and studied everything in it and worked on weaknesses, it wasn't bad.

Many people on allnurses say that the practice tests online were "significantly harder" than the real one. I wouldn't say "significantly" but the real one wasn't too much easier.

Reading - the sections were longer than practice exams from the books and online. But definitely all the same material covered - following directions, main idea, themes, etc.

Math - I was 2 minutes away from running out of time on this section, but that is probably due to my neurotic-ness at making sure I calculated correctly and double checking it all. All the material in the math portion of the ATI Study Manual was on this section.

Science - all over the place. There were some questions though that I can look at it and be like "yes, that's definitely the answer" - even if you are unfamiliar with the material. However, there was a lot not covered in the study manuals that I had known from my core bio courses.

English - basic and self explanatory like the manual and practice exams.

I'll post my score as soon as its uploaded onto my ATI account. I don know what's worse now - the anxiety I had to take the exam, or the wait now to get my score. :***:

So my scores are posted finally. (earlier than the said 48 hours so I guess I can't be too impatient, haha).

I think this is good? Idk, I was hoping for closer to 90 but I'll take this considering how anxious I was.

Adjusted Individual Total Score: 85.0%

ATI AcademicPreparedness Level: Advanced

Mean - National: 64.3%

Mean - Program: 64.9%

Percentile Rank - National: 94

Percentile Rank - Program: 95

So now I just have to hope that this plus my grades and such is good enough to get me in for spring, ah the anxiety!!

Hello Everyone!

I decided to see if there was a thread for spring 2016 and was shocked to see that people are already talking about it. I am anxiously waiting for our first emails to come.

My Bio GPA is 3.86 and my overall GPA is a 3.72. I have a BS in Biological Sciences.

I took the TEAS at the beginning of August and scored an 89.3%

Good luck to everyone!

What other programs have/are you guys applying to?

You basically have like a solid, if not already for sure spot in! Your stats are awesome :]!

I only applied to COC and Moorpark. I just moved to this general area from Chicago, Illinois and still don't quite have a feel for everything yet here.

What about you?!

I know I spoke to Julie at COC though, and she said the week of the 21st we should be getting our first round of e-mails.

It'd be cool if we all got in together :D

We shall see and thanks! You did great on your TEAS test as well!

I also applied to Pierce College's nursing program and I will be applying to two accelerated programs since I already have a degree.

I just want time to speed up and find out already if I will actually have a least one school to go to.

Yeah it would be awesome if we all got in together :)

Are you applying to those MSN entry-level accelerated programs for those with a non-nursing degree? I have a friend who is just about finished with one of those programs and she's so glad she did it that way.

And I feel you on wishing time would hurry up. In basically one month we'll have an answer, but that seems light years away >__>

It's not an MSN its just an Accelerated BSN program which will get me a second bachelors quicker then if I went to a community college.

Yeah hopefully this month will go by super fast, we just have to stay busy!

Ah that's a good option to have too!

I don't know what I'll do if I don't get into either of my schools this application period. I just moved to California from Chicago and I was close to finishing my BS in Neuro there at the University of Illinois but I had to move before I could get it done - which blows. So I'm like not even at the point where I could do an accelerated program yet.

I still keep checking my e-mail daily in hopes of getting the next update e-mail, bleh. I feel neurotic doing so

We should be getting our first round of e-mails today or in the next couple days, how nerve-wracking and exciting!

All your stats sound great. I would be surprised if y'all didn't get in. I know people that received 72-74 and got in to our class. I personally got a 82.5 and here I am in my last semester of the program :).

I'm so anxious to hear back! Ugh lol. Waiting for the status update e-mails this week about the invite to TEAS/them receiving scores is so suspenseful!

The last semester though, wow that's exciting :))! Congrats on getting this far. How have you liked the program!?

I recently called the nursing department and they said that emails will be going out in the later part of the week. Just so everyone has an idea of when to expect them.
