Anyone applying to COC Nursing program Fall 2016?
@levylev I was in my school's Marching Band and Jazz Band! I loved music but I knew it wasn't something that I could pursue either :/ I wish I would have thought about getting an internship and getting some experience...I have no experience with nursing I hope that doesn't affect me too much, but Im a hard working girl and Im not afraid to get my hands dirty

Hi guys! I've been looking at your thread and have decided to join in! I plan on applying to COC's nursing program to begin in Fall 2017,but would like to get some advice and information on the program! Is there a point system, is there a point cut off, TEAS score cut off, etc.
I think the best advice is to attend an information session. They go over everything there. Best of luck to you!!

Hello! My best advice to you is to attend an information session...just go on the COC website and search for "Nursing Department" on that site you should see a schedule of info sessions :) These sessions are really helpful, they answer all your questions and they aren't long. So far COC works on a point system based on GPA/TEAS/(repeats, Ws, experience, volunteer etc. They take in 50 people (top 40 and 10 random) and they also select some alternates. I have no idea what the cutt of is and I think for the TEAS the passing grade is 62% (however make sure to aim high on the test!!) Also, I took TEAS V...by the time you sign up you might have to take the TEAS VI since it's comming out this fall. I hope this helps you a little, I know Im not much help but if I get in the program I will he sure to keep in touch with you and others that are interested in the program :)
Hi everyone! Good luck with your applications! Any day now you will hear! I am in my 4th semester and it is an honor and a privilege to attend COC RN program. I am blown away every day at how great the instructors are and the clinical facilities we rotate to. If accepted, you will not be disappointed.
@excited1 I appreciate your kindness I have one question..is health care experience heavily considered when they choose the students?? I have none and I am freaking out lol I already has 1 nightmare that I didn't get....needless to say my sympathetic nervous system is activated right now

Very touching story! I would be glad to have a nurse with your experience on the floor of the NICU! Glad you made the choice of becoming a nurse.
@luna1994 The idea of a hands-on job is what I like about nursing as well.
It's funny because my original major was music, which is waaaay off from nursing. But, I've always had a heart to help others. The major turning point was when I had to complete my bio requirement for general education. I decided to take on Human Anatomy (mind you, I had no idea of the difficulty level!!!). I was in a class full of goal-oriented students, which I enjoy since I am a good student myself. I then decided, if I like this class, I will pursue a career in the medical field since music has no real direction (plus, you dont really need a degree to pursue music). Any how, from there on I feel in love with the human body and the environment of hardworking individuals. I began volunteering, as an athletic training, assistant coaching for special olympics, and then got an internship at Glendale Adventist Medical Center as a Clinical Care Extender. The internship got my feet wet in different units, Orthopedics->Cardiac Telemetry->Acute Rehab->ER->SICU/CICU. I got to see what it was like on the floor and the roles of allied health professionals. At first I wanted to become a PT, then changed my mind to OT, then MD, then PA, then I decided nursing lol. I really enjoy the fact that nursing has so many specialized fields/opportunities/settings and the fact that the schooling isnt as long as the other professions. Long story short lol.
