Hello everyone,
I opened my blackboard this morning, and behold math 1302 (college algebra) has been posted, and to my greatest surprised all exams and test must be proctored online, you also have option to take the exam in the school for those that live closer to the school. Please, anyone who knows how this online proctor works should share their experiences and give any input. Thank you.

You must utilize Proctor U which is an online service that basically monitors you via webcam while you test. You pay for each unit test and the final. The price varies depending on how far in advance you book your testing time and how long you take to complete the test. You must show picture ID before you test, show your environment to your proctor like scan the room you are in with your webcam. You can not have any background noise at ALL or they will stop your test and you may not get up during your test. They allow scratch paper to work problems out but you must show the paper to the proctor person before you begin your test so they know you don't have notes etc written down. You are permitted 1 3x5 note card for formulas. I was quite aggravated with the process along with the large volume of homework required for math 1302 so I dropped the class at UTA and completed it at a community college. So I log on today to Math 1308 stats at UTA to find out the format is now exactly like math 1302 proctoring and all.

I found both 1302 and 1308 to be extremely tough - I took them both online at UTA and barely passed, although I am impressed that I did as well as I did without any help (legitimate or otherwise). I took them before the proctor requirement. I wonder if they found a lot of cheating?
I would advise anyone not super strong in math to take these classes locally and not online - not because of the proctoring, but because the material is tough and there is a lot of work to be done in both classes.

Hang on to your hats and start studying early unless you are a math whiz. This is not for the weak. Best wishes to all!
Lake emerald I am sorry I couldn't reply to your private message I guess I haven't posted enough to PM. I ended up dropping UTA aalgebra last spring and took it this summer at a local community college. I am now enrolled in UTA stats and it is the same format as 1302. I am not happy but I have to try and finish it so I can graduate and be done with UTA.
Thank you all for your reply. College algebra starts next week, and I am totally confused at this time. I am thinking of hiring a tutor that will teach me the math steps, but the test and exams are my most concern. Without proctoring, I can use my calculator, but with proctoring there will be no calculator...this is not funny anymore. I don't even know if getting myself a tutor will be of help to me..thank you all.
I read in the syllabus that a calculator and a 3x5 note card for formulas are allowed for the proctored exams. Am I wrong? Don't scare me!
Yep. Went back and verified the latest syllabus. A calculator, a note card, and scratch paper are allowed for exams.
LakeEmerald, thank you so much. Yes scientific calculator is an additional requirement. I was scared after watching the demo proctorU video. I hope we help each other in this course, let's see how the first week goes. thank you all.
GOBS of homework, I feel like my brain has increased 3 sizes in a week - lol! But so far MUCH more doable than the 8 week course. Goodbye life (til December 5th) - hello BSN!!!!!!
LakeEmerald, OMG!!! My mouth cannot talk anymore, this is incredible. You nailed it, no more sleep, and no more rest till December 5th.
That home work is too heavy for a semester, one homework takes 4 hours to complete. I was wondering how long our Test and Exam will take, and how many questions. Wonderful, I'm still paddling it one at a time. Let's see how it goes after the first Test. Thanks for sharing!!

I took this and stats. My stats was not proctered but algebra im shocked i passed, ive never had so much homework in a class.
The tests were insane and i would usually use all the time, and paying for them really kind of ticked me off too (since i live out of state).
Just keep plugging away and be sure to send questions to your teacher mine was great and even did private chats with me becuase i worked past the time of the regular group chats.
