Cold calling to market CLNC services

hello!

i'm a newly certified clnc as of march 9, 2009. i've been too busy working overtime until now and want to get started with marketing.

hello, anita. good to see that you are going to start hitting the marketing scene.

i don't know if i'm making things harder for myself but what i have in mind is that i need to develop scripts, a web site, get business cards, a business picture, etc before i can get started. is this all necessary before beginning? or am i making it harder on myself because i feel like i'm dreadlocked with where to begin.

no, you do not need a website to start off. that can come along later. yes, you need professional business cards. business picture is up to you. the main things to get started:

business name
logo
business cards
letterhead
business suit(s)
litigation software (not to market, but to be ready when you do land that first case)

anyway, i was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to say with cold calls? getting past the gatekeeper? should i just keep it simple for starters (such as basic clnc services such as screening cases for merit, screening cases for tampering, preparing case reports, etc).

i've covered the marketing calls in that same thread, page 5. take a look.

as you can tell from what i already wrote, i have a thousand ideas floating around in my head and am finding that is only confusing me as to how to start and keep it simple enough to get the wheel turning and get that first case.

thank you for your response, suri! that link is wonderful with excellent tips! the only thing i did not come across yet was about legally picking a business name. can you just create a name? or do you have to check if someone else is using that name? if so, how do you go about doing that? and do you have to go through an attorney. i didn't plan on becoming a llc or incorporated at this point as my accountant told me that it doesn't make any difference (that llc only protects you from being sued if a mistake is made by one of your employees [which i don't have any]). additionally, if your business name contains part of name of another business, could that be a problem?

sorry! there i go with thinking too much but these are some of the things that have crossed my mind and i surely don't want to get into a heap before i've even got started or down the road.

incorporating will protect your name. the secretary of your state will ensure that your name is yours and yours alone.

no, you do not need an attorney to become llc. http://www.legalfilings.com is a good way to do this. it's all legitimate and inexpensive to become llc using this entity. and, they do all the legwork regarding research to see if the name you've chosen already exists in your state.

as for you name, just start writing out ideas. many go with their own names and add something like, legal nurse consultants at the end. plural (consultants) for you will be oftentimes subcontracting and you will always be networking with other lncs, thus the 's' in 'consultants' as part of your business name. something like:

anita allnurses

legal nurse consultants

or,

an

legal nurse consultants

and, when you do your letterhead, have your initials, 'an' as a watermark as well as on your business cards. as you've read in that marketing thread, keep your colors muted. do not go crazy with bright colors. i have found that when dealing with attorneys, especially males, they are not impressed with brightly colored, several colors, cards. and, must be on quality paper with quality printing (not something you do yourself). your cards/letterhead will reflect your business savvy.

you can also do a logo. something that defines you.....something that you feel is all about you as a legal nurse consultant.
