Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to know if any one got accepted to the Cochran School of Nursing.... what the interview process was like, what question(s) were asked and how long after the interview did you received an acceptance letter.
My only advice would be to read everything they give you. I read the entire first unit before school even started to alleviate some of the pressure. I studied from the TEAS prep book, really just know your basic math (it's timed) so you don't panic and start putting any answer. You should be fine, don't stress.
I took the paperwork and I will test and then I guess wait for the interview. Taking chemistry now so I am also awaiting that grade. I had the TEAS book for awhile paced myself so that cramming wasn't an option. Thanks for the advice. Are you guys currently enrolled? How are you doing so far?
Yes, you will definitely need a car. Right now we are doing a rotation at Malotz nursing home but after that you never know where you are going.
After six months of communication with the admission advisor at the school, and completing all my prequisites, and a phone call asking me which session I would like to attend, I received a letter stating that I did not meet the college criteria, I was fuming and went there in person and spoke with KV, she claims it's not her and it's the committee, I requested to speak to some one from the committee and was not successful.
I have a bunch of emails from her and I am wondering why it took six months to tell me I don't meet the criteria, I felt that she did not valued my time.....I forfeited my trip to Thailand and went to summer school and completed general biology, I could have done something else.
When I asked her what the college criteria is, she could not answer, she took the letter from me and made a copy and told me I'll hear from her in a week, .......a week has passed and I haven't heard anything.
I'm detecting a bit of racism in this school and I think they need to be exposed.
What gets me boiling is the fact that she told me what I needed and I did everything, then she scheduled me for the interview, then called me and asked me which session I would like to attend....how misleading.
Just a warning to everyone, having all your prequisites does not guarantee acceptance in the program, make sure you have a plan B, I will be going in to speak to the director and I will be taking along with me all the emails and the letter that was sent to me telling me what the requirements are.
Hey Guys,
Just wanted to know how many of you out there got a letter from the Cochran school of Nursing, stating that you do not meet the criteria.
I want to know if I am the only one that was misled, and what are you going to do about it.
My story:
I took the teas in may and was successful, I received a letter stating that I needed general biology and high school transcript.
I went to high school out of the country, so I presented my GED which was accepted......I then enrolled in summer school and completed general biology and then submitted my transcript.
During this time I was in constant communication with KV and she wanted to know when The transcript was mailed out, as soon as it was mailed out I sent her an email, she responded and informed me that transcript was received, she then requested my GED scores, I sent to Albany and faxed it to her....after this I was scheduled for an interview.
I did the interview and was told by the admission advisor that I will be hearing from her the second week in november, two weeks after the interview, she called me and told me she is preparing paper work for admission and wanted to know which session I would like to attend, I told her day.
Two weeks after that conversation I received a letter stating that I did not meet the school criteria. I visited the school and requested to speak to the advisor, her respond to me was "it's not me, it's not me, it's the committee". I requested to speak to some-one from the committee and she stated that it's a group of people that makes up the committee.
She then referred back to the letter and stated that I don't meet the criteria, when I asked her what is the college criteria, she could not answer me, she then said "try back in six months", and I asked, "how can I try back, if I don't know what the criteria is.
When I told her I forfeited my trip to Thailand, she relented, took a copy of the letter and my telephone number, stated that I'll hear from her in a week, well, a week has passed and I haven't heard from her.
I'm still not done, I will be speaking to the director of the school to find out why, and what is the criteria of the school.
I need to hear from anyone that has been denied.
I completed all the prerequisites and have a Bachelors of Arts in another field.
Funny you say that I did the same thing running around for january and now they tell me all the seats are filled my admission would be for september now...SO SAD...they think people really have time to play games with their future..Well I dont. I think I will stay in the school I currently attend and pray for admittance there.

Not to sound like I am totally not understanding your situation, but the BIO with lab requirement and others that was asked from you are basic requirements to be considered for the program. Most Nursing schools if not all has this minimum requirement.
It also might be true that KV is not a part of the committee which decides who goes and who doesn't. Every school has different criterias in picking which students they believe would succeed in their program. A "successful" result in the TEAS does not guarantee anyone anything (Hell! I was told my score was great). There are hundreds of students applying to every Nursing School in NY per semester, we do not know their situation and what they could bring to the table. Not to put you down, but just maybe other students pre-req grades, combined with the TEAS score and interview were better than yours.
I know I sound like I'm trying to defend Cochran, I'm not. It's just that we all put in the same effort as you have. It's sad that you had to forfeit your Thailand trip to take a BIO class, but that just goes to show how serious going into NUrsing School is. One day, when we all get into the NS we wanted, we would all have to sacrifice a little here and there, but it will all be worth it at the end when you're doing your first round.
Regarding the call you got. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. Did you check which class you are applying to (day, eve, sat?) in your application form? I know for sure that they have different amount of seats available per class, maybe they are trying to group the applicants that way so they could make a decision based on it. Just a thought.
I also applied for the Spring semester. Took the TEAS, was told by KV that I need a letter from my A&P 2 professor stating how I'm doing in class since A&P 2 is a pre req and I'm taking it this semester. She said as soon as I get it to her she will schedule me for an interview. I mailed it, she said she never got it. I tried calling to follow up but I was not really 100% sure if I want to make the one and a half hr drive to and from Cochran so I just let it go. I'll send in my transcript for Fall '09 if I don't get lucky to get in any school I applied for the Spring.
Lastly, I know you want to go in to speak with the Director to answer your questions to ease your mind and somehow make you feel better. The answers won't. You're disappointed. Most likely you're hopes were high as most aspiring Nursing students are. Console yourself knowing that a better NS who will see you for your potential will get the best of you and that it's Cochran's lost not yours.
God bless you in your path :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe
As Cochran student just wanted you to know that an interview does not guarantee admittance into the program. It really all depends on the commiteee.
And for future reference not for nursing school only if you do not have a letter in your hand stating that you were accepted then it is not official. I have left job interviews believing that I was in--but later learned that I wasn't. It sucks, but that's the way it goes.
