Cochran School of nursing Fall 2020

Published

Hello All!

I noticed that there wasn't a thread for this year so I wanted to start one.

I live in near Hartford, CT and I'm 25 and I want to start a career in Nursing.

I have a BA in Psychology with a low undergrad GPA of a 2.51 ?

So I'm taking the longer route to eventually become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

I do have a high pre-req GPA due to class retakes at several community colleges and I've also completed all of the pre-req requirements too.

Teas score of 76, and experience as Americorps state member at a health education site with 1700 hours.

Im hoping to take the kaplan test soon so any advice would help too! Admissions stated that they would give me a May 19 or 20th test date.

Anyone know when we will hear back from admissions after taking the test?

Also what score is competitive?

Nope, nothing yet ? I emailed them last week but still haven’t heard anything. I hope They get back to us soon!

I emailed right now & was told emails should be sent out today !

Hi guys!! Some of you have probably read my post about Montefiore fall 2019. My Kaplan score was an 86 and my GPA was a 3.6 I got accepted to Both schools and I chose Cochran.

First let me say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!I know times are different now even though it’s only been a year but you guys have made it this far so you will make it through this program!!! It’s not peaches and cream “ corny I know LOL! But you guys can do it! I completed my first year with an 86 each semester!! ( must be my lucky Number or somn!! The time flew by so quickly. Also I started in the day program and switched to the evening program for Med surg! They are very flexible and they work with you.

The Professors are tough but they are preparing you to be a Nurse so expect a little criticism and use it to do better. If you guys have any questions let me know!! I was in your shoes last year and I swear they got annoyed with me because I called and emailed everyday until school started!!
Good luck everyone. And to those who did not get in this try you will become an RN if that’s what you truly want to do!!❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us!! It helps my nerves so much! If you could give us some advice or tips on studying & how to tackle the reading assignments that would be great? thank you!!

THANK YOU! An 86 is a dream girl! Def we all want that! Thank you for encouraging us Becuase I am sure we all feeling a bit like how do we study for all of this! I wish you also well on your up coming semester!

So what I wish someone would have told me was.....

The powerpoints are your holy grail!!! Literally they put what’s on the test in the PowerPoint it’s just not obvious at first. So I suggest to Go through your PowerPoint BEFORE lecture. You will never be able to keep up with the class if you try to complete the assigned readings!!! so skim through chapters.
Read the highlighted boxes. First. Then you go though the first and last sentence of each paragraph because some paragraphs are repetitive.

The first exam for me was so easy!! That was the trick though!! I was feeling myself for a good two days and Miss N**** said “that will be the easiest nursing exam you will see for the next two years so consider it a gift”!! I could have made a 100 on that test but got a 95 based on reading the powerpoints and listening to The professors during lecture. Don’t doubt yourself during the test if it feels right go with it!! Unless an angel comes and personally taps your shoulder and says it wrong!!! Changing answers cost me my A in Basics and Med surg!!! Focus on getting the highest grade you can possibly get on that exam because that will be your cushion for the rest of the semester. I failed one exam the first semester but I wasn’t even worried about failing the class because of that first exam grade. Not saying you guys will get bad grades after that but not every test will be a very high grade! And that’s okay take it one test at a time!!

I also record my lectures and play them back while going through the PowerPoint after lecture so that can work for some people. It was easier for me that way because while taking the test I could hear Miss N***** in my head ?.

And the difference between the day and evening programs since I have been in both is the clincal experience! The day programs gets the best experience, because in the evening time the hospital is quiet not much to do!! But you guys are learning the same thing at the same time and taking the same exam on the same day!

Hey guys! ?

Has anyone purchased all the books yet? I'm still a little confused as to which books are needed for the first semester. Do we need all of the books from Unit I - Unit V? These books are pricey!

Hi smartirntb, I have and you're right the books are a bit pricey. Get the four books that said required that will run you over $1000 including shipping.
