U.S.A. New York

The deadlines for Fall 2012 are quickly approaching. Has anyone received a call back about their applications or taken their entrance exams? These are my top 4 choices and I am very anxious to get into one of their programs.

Hey! I was accepted to Touro College as well for Summer 2012! Im exicited but a bit confused because someone was saying that they are not cert. with NLN of something like that? Im confused... I want to accept they're offer BUT this has me a little worried :/

here is the link to their website...

touro college - about touro college

the end of the fourth paragraph states this:

"the nursing program has been granted candidate status by the national league for nursing accrediting commission (nlnac), 3343 peachtree road ne, suite 500, atlanta, ga 30326 (404-975-5000)."

so....

they are currently not fully accredited but applied for accreditation.

here is the link that shows they are a candidate from the nlnac website:

nlnac candidates ..... just scroll down

here is what they say about candidacy:

[h=2]overview of candidacy[/h]

candidacy is the first step toward nlnac accreditation. nursing education units considering accreditation who contact nlnac are assigned a member of the professional staff as their mentor after eligibility requirements have been met. the mentor service is provided to facilitate program faculty self-review and planning.

candidacy status

candidacy is granted after a staff review of a nursing education program's potential to achieve nlnac accreditation.

  • the areas of staff review are the: faculty; curriculum; and resources.

once a program has been granted candidacy it must seek full accreditation within 2 years.

a program candidate may indicate the following to potential students and interested members of the public:

  • this nursing education program is a candidate for accreditation by the national league for nursing accrediting commission.

candidacy status does not guarantee that a program will achieve full accreditation, which is granted by the commission after a full accreditation review including a visit by a team of trained site visitors.

mentor service

the role of the nlnac mentor is to provide the nursing program with a specific contact person who will be available to them to address any questions about the process or the interpretation of any nlnac requirements. the mentor is also available to review drafts of candidacy materials and offer advice/assistance when needed.

touro's time to apply for full accreditation is almost up. you may want to call the school to see what they currently doing.

hope this helps you!

AspiringNurse,

Congrats on your acceptance! Did you get into any other schools? Im not too worried about Touro's accreditation status myself. They are in candidacy status until June, and theyre up for review for accreditation. In fact, the day I went in for my interview they had their visit from the NLN and the professor seemed very positive about it. They dont get a decision until July. If you are worried, call them definately. But heres my perspective. Accrediation is a recognition for all colleges to accept each others programs as equal and transfer credit. Touro already has an agreement with LIU to take their students for their BSN. So if your planning to go fo your BSN theres nothing to lose. Touro is certified by NYS and the office of professions so you are eligible to sit for the NCLEX because of that. Plus think about Touro as a whole. They are widely recognized and respected for their healthcare programs. And Touro Nevada is fully accredited. I think they'll have this in the bag. Your taking a chance but of course, we all are. If you went to a school that was fully accredited and then lost their accreditation while you were in school, you'd have alot to think about......

congrats on your acceptances! quick question for those who got in Touro: How was the interview process like? I'll be going to mine soon and is just getting a little nervous working myself up lol. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks! =)

Thank you @CecixLI --- That is something I will consider. I liked the school when I attended and can't wait start, the admissions office staff seemed nice when I visited to drop off my application. Only thing is it's a bit far from me (I live in Queens)

@nylady07- thanks for the info, and I also applied to PBISN and NYU, I had my interview with PBISN about a week ago and i'm waiting for a reply. NYU still hasn't answered me, but I did hand in my application late. Where have you applied too?

As for @studentinprogress ... I never had an interview so I can't help you there :( I hope it went well, and that you were accepted :)

whoops the other school question was for CecixLI lol

AspiringNurse,

I applied to PBISON, NYU, and Farmingdale. I confirmed acceptance to Touro already, I don't need to wait on any other school, my heart was set on Touro anyway. and BTW i live in long island so its quite a hike but i'm up for it! This is my career after all, sometimes you have to make sacrifices. And the staff is definately top notch everyone is so helpful, the students are all pretty nice too and willing to share info... i just wish they were on this site to give more people heads up on what to expect!
