COC - College of the Canyons - Spring 2014

Published

I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!

I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)

I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!

I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!

Hey 2dawn! Thank you so much for that! Unfortunately, I didn't reach the score I wanted.. though, I met the minimum requirement to say the least! Still crossing my fingers! If I get invited to take the TEAS with COC, I might retake it again!

Hey Slicksgirl,

so did you already take the TEAS elsewhere? that's what I did and I passed by a thin line lol it was hard for me! do you know if we are able to retake it? I thought on the app it said 1st try only .....

Hey omgonlyinstilettos,

Yea! I actually took it in CSULA.. through ATI. I paid $75 to take it. Most schools will let you retake it.. Cus they'll ask for you to turn in your best score. Do you mean for coc? I don't recall them only asking for the first try. There are, however school that only wants 1st attempt score.

Hey Slicksgirl, Ok i thought on my COC app it asked if i took the TEAS and then it said 1st attempt only, so im assuming i cant re take it?

I am still waiting for the ok to apply. Hopefully I get the email soon otherwise I will apply on the 28th. I also applied to Los Angeles City College, Pierce, Valley (sept 1st), Glendale, and LA Allied Health. I just took the TEAS with Pierce and thankfully passed. Anyone know how long it takes to get the approval after the test?

Sorry, I don't know how long it takes to get approval at Pierce. As for COC, have you been checking your COC email account?

Uh oh, I was not aware of a COC email account! I just set mine up right now and I missed a deadline to turn in a required PDF! :( There goes my application for COC! :( I guess I will just apply next year for the LVN-RN bridge. Good luck to everyone! Keep me posted, I wanna hear each and everyone's experience.

Oooh nooooooo! My heart goes out to you!

I hope you get into one of the other colleges you applied to :-) I'm rooting for you!

Thank you 2dawn! Thats so sweet of you! I hope so too! Meanwhile, I'm over here rooting for you guys!

Hello all! I'm so happy I found a forum for COC's Spring 2014 nursing semester :) I just wanted to join in and say hey!

I applied for Spring back in August and am currently waiting for my TEAS V invite...the anticipation is killing me! I've been studying all summer and will be crushed if I don't get an invite to COC. Do any of you know when they will be sending out the emails? Or have any of you received an email about the TEAS?

My grades are ok...3.3 GPA for my core biology courses and a 3.3 GPA overall. I have a little over 100 volunteer hours but that's about all experience that I have unfortunately. I'm hoping to do really well on the TEAS and that my grades are good enough. Fingers crossed! :cat:

Anyways, I wish everyone the best of luck during this stressful process and can't wait to hear from you all! :)

Hi jessii427!

Welcome to the nail-biters club! COC's website says they will be sending out email notifications in mid-to-late September. Last year I received the application status notification on 9/19. I'm assuming they will send out the TEAS invitations at the same time as the notifications.

I'm almost afraid to check my email because I'm not ready to take the test! I'm still trying to cram all the information into my brain! I'm taking a brutal statistics class which is leaving me little time to study for the TEAS. I wish I had been studying all summer!

I'm sure all of your hard work will pay off with a great TEAS score and along with over 100 volunteer hours, you should float to the top of the list!

2dawn,

Thanks for the encouragement it means a lot! Hopefully our emails come this week! Have you tried Khan academy? I've been watching all of the videos about the science covered in the ATI TEASV study book and it has helped A LOT, especially with chemistry. I'm sure you'll do great :)
