I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!
I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)
I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!
I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!
Oh that is good news!! Yes I got my titers and waiting for my results. I should get them today an go from there. I'm scheduled for my Tb test for next Tuesday cause I've had a sinus infection for a couple days and the nurse said not to come in until it's gone :/ my physical is all completed though thank goodness! All I need to do now is the drug test, student insurance, the Kaplan resources, and then the skills kit and uniform.

I got my titer tests, Tdap, and TB test done at COC Student Health Center because they are BY FAR the least expensive. Just give them a call and make an appointment. They require that you pay by cash or check.
I got my physical and physical functional abilities test done at Valencia Medical Care in Valencia. I don't think that very many Dr.'s offices offer the physical functional abilities test, but they do. You need to call the COC Student Health Center and have them email you the slip to get both the physical and physical functional abilities tests for $85 total. You need to take the slip with you and give it to them at Valencia Medical Care to get the bargain rate. I had them give me the flu vaccine while I was there which cost $25. You may be able to get a better price elsewhere but I chose to just get it done while I was there.
For the drug screen, I went to U.S. Healthworks. You don't need an appointment, just show up before 5:00pm, but you DO need to print out the slip in Folder 2 and give it to them to get the contracted rate of $65. I did as the Nursing Director told us at orientation and told them that I needed to have exactly these 10 tests done and they told me that they are contracted with COC and know exactly which tests to do. They went on to say that they frequently have students come to them after trying to "save a couple of dollars" and not having the required 10 tests done at other facilities.
Be sure to bring all the slips with you that need to be signed!
when u call don't tell them u need a physical, just try to get a same day appt, if they ask you for what just tell them you need your titters, try panorama city with Dr. ---------, my husband did that and that doctor filled everything out for him, he was really cool. Try to call at 7 am. I got my all my stuff done today. All i have to do is my drug test for which i went friday and i got a call yesterday to go back because they made a mistake and threw away my urine sample, I'm so upset
I went on friday to U.S. Healthworks after orientation and yesterday they called that i need to go back since they threw my urine sample by mistake. :-(

Wow! Bummer... I had something similar happen in the past. I had a pap smear done and I got a call a couple of days later informing me that they had mixed up the swabs of myself and someone else and weren't sure which swab was which so I had to go back and have another pap smear done!
Just to let everyone know, I called Dove Apparel and asked them how I go about selecting a size on their website. Currently there is no way to choose a small, medium, large, etc. They asked if I was going to College of the Canyons. When I replied "yes" they told me that they are working on it and we should be able to select a size on their website sometime next week.
Also, I asked if we could get our uniforms shipped sooner than two weeks before the start of class and I was told that they will only ship them two weeks before the start of clinical. Bummer...
They said that they are working with COC to see if they will make samples of the different sizes and styles available for us to try on and to call them back in a couple of weeks to see if they were able to work something out.

I'm going to the fire safety class on the 16th. I found a CPR class that's much closer to where I live. It's only a 20 minute drive away and you do the class online and just go to their location for the skills portion. Bonus!
When you say that you got your blood work done, do you mean your titer tests? I got my titer test, TB test, Tdap vaccine, physical, physical functional abilities test, flu shot, and drug test yesterday. I needed to make my trip multipurpose because it's such a long drive from where I live! Got'er done!
Yesterday, I asked the Nursing Director when we will find out what books we'll be using so that we can get a head start on the reading. She told me that they will let us know before the Christmas break! I'm thinking that we may get our schedule by then also! Good news!
