CNO Registration Times - Usually This Long?

Published

I received my CPNRE results on February 14th & sent in my registration form + payment and police check by regular mail to the CNO on February 15th. Today would be the 11th business day since mailing it out and the CNO says they still haven't received my registration papers. I've asked the CNO to re-mail me new forms, but I'll have to pay for yet another police check (they only accept original copies). I just got off the phone with the CNO & they said 10 business days, so I'm assuming there's a chance my forms got lost in the mail now.

Is anyone else still waiting their registration number? I have two job offers waiting on me to provide them with that number so it's frustrating.

It's been almost 30 days since I sent in my registration and payment. The CNO charged my credit card for the fee last week, but are now holding my registration to look into information that showed up on the police check I sent in.

I already work for a major hospital system & they require us to get VSS police checks (more detailed than the basic check). On a VSS, the back page lists any police contact you may have had (witnessing an accident, calling in a disturbance, anything where you provide your name). On mine, there are a few police contacts that show up and list me as "other" (there are options to list as assused, victim, suspect, etc).

The CNO only requires you send in a basic police check, but I sent in the VSS because my employers copy wasn't expired yet, so to save myself $45 I sent in the VSS I already had.

My question is, why is the CNO holding my registration to investigate information they don't require in the first place? The CNO only asks for a basic check so the police contact does not show on there but like I said above, it's what I already had. Had I known it'd be a problem I would have paid the $45 for a basic check.

After waiting over an hour to get through to the CNO each time, they won't transfer me to anyone who can assist me further and tell me all I can do is wait and can't give me anymore information. I have a job offer that's about to be revoked because of this hold-up so it's quite frustrating, especially with bills to pay.

Has anyone sent in a VSS and had similar issues? The CNO can't even tell me that their review process is for the information they're "looking into" regarding my VSS.

Wow this must be horrible for you! Perhaps they want to look into the records and see what your exact involvement was. The cno should at least allow you to be updated or speak to the individual who is looking into your case. Perhaps you could try going in person to the cno offices in Toronto? Did no one try to give you a time line of when you can expect your registration to be completed? I think this is a double check because if they were intending to not issue you a liscencr they probably would not have charged your card.I myself am still waiting to be registered. I sent my paperwork on the 21st of feb and spoke to the cno last week and they said probably this week I will be registered. The customer service people always sound tired and inpatient I guess they have been recurring a lot of calls....Just hang in there hopefully things will move quickly for you!

I get nowhere with their customer service reps. I've sent an email to the CNO asking if I could speak to the person directly involved with my paperwork so I can get a better answer than "keep waiting", so I'll wait for a reply. If they are planning on checking into the records to see my exact involvement that would mean they're going to need to request that paperwork from police services themselves and that can take 6-8 weeks to receive! I hope that isn't the case because the CNO doesn't request a police contact record, I just sent in a VSS because it's what I had at the time so I hope they don't delay my registration any further to investigate information they don't even require for registration. We'll see.

Sorry, but if it's a police matter I think the public of Ontario has the right to expect that it's been thoroughly investigated and that you are deemed "cleared" to work with the public.

Think of all the bad press hospitals have had over the last few years about staff and various security/theft issues.

The public is entitled to feel safe and secure when in a hospital and not have to worry about the background of their caregivers.

yes the cno is setup to protect the public so its their duty to investigate and ensure that the nurse is deemed safe prior to licensing. i feel bad for you insomniac-88 but i guess if you had followed cno instructions and sent in a cpic which costs under $30 for two copies you would not be in this mess. vss is valid for a year where as cpic is valid for 6 months.

Finally got my registration number.

:)

Congratulations I was registered on march 8th Atleast it's over and you can enjoy being an RPN!

Registering in person at the CNO is faster. I got my registration number in 4 days. I still have classmates still waiting for theirs to be processed and I guess with the recent CRNE results it increases the wait time.

Hi toronto_nurse! How did you registered in person with the CNO? Did you pay on the spot? Thanks

Does anybody know the fastest time it takes for registration forms to process and to receive their registration number? i just got hired and the facility is waiting on my registration number
