To any one here that has been a CNA starting, or any other advice will work as well, going to start out as a CNA then work my way up the ladder wanting to know how helpful a pda would be as a CNA if for nothing else just to study while working up the ladder to a RN position.

Thanks Jerry :)

Hi Jerry:

I don't think you will need a PDA for CNA. CNA's do some documentation but it is not to leave the establishment. A lot of times their is a clipboard in the hall for documentation then the LPN/RN put the info in the actually chart.

Also, you will be working so hard phyiscally that you want to carry a very light load of any extra times such as keys, eletronics, heavy bulky wallets and such.

Good luck to you!!!

I think a PDA would not be helpful to a CNA. I don't even have one as an RN...but I have been leaning towards one, I'm still preferential to paper information, even when I look up stuff on like, micromedix, I like to print it out...

I'm not sure that a PDA is something that is all that comfrtable to study from (I mean the screens aren't all that huge etc).

I'd invest in some good books prior to a PDA, because of course by the time you graduate from Nursing school, the one you bought as a CNA will be hopelessly outdated. Of course, if you have spare cash, then, why not?

I also think PDAs are unnecessary for CNAs. There's just not a lot of complicated info you need to know.

If you do buy one, leave it at home or you will never hear the end of it LOL.

Considering I don't know what I'd do with one outside of work, I certainly don't know what I'd do with one at work. Perhaps drop it in the toilet, like I did my gait belt.

Gaarrroooossss! Hate it when that happens. My first week as a CNA a lady pooped on my new white shoes! You KNOW you've had a hard day at the office when you come home with poop on your shoe. Glad we can all laugh at the miss haps.

I don't think you will find it worth the investment while you are a CNA. I would leave it until you begin your nursing education...save your money now, then buy one with the bells and whistles that will allow you access to the drug info and other stuff that you can use...:)

If you want to study towards your RN, I would suggest getting some stuff to study things like A&P or just start taking the pre-reqs.

Good luck to you!

[/:confused: Hey Jerry,

As a CNA, PLEASE do not waste your money for work.... I only carry a pen and scratch paper, and am CONSTANTLY losing my pen....

I used to wear a watch, but have had some Nasty stuff on it by the nights end. I also used to wear rings, but have pulled them off when doing rounds with my gloves.... I go to work now with the BARE min. of stuff... All my good stuff is locked in the hatch of my car (including a spare uniform). A few bucks in my coat pocket and I am set... Good luck.... A tired CNA, Kathy
