I know this is a stupid question but is CNA required in Illinois to become a nurse? I know some nursing schools don't require it to get into the program but does the nursing board require it before you become an LPN/RN??

In some states(north carolina is one I believe) , yes it is required to be a CNA before you enter a nursing program. I am not sure about Illinois..maybe you should check your prospective schools and see what their requirements are?
Good luck.

Depends on the school. I'm in Illinois, the state does not require it, but many schools do.

Here in Kentucky, you need to be a registered CNA to get into an LPN/RN Program..

Where I live (Southern NH/Mass) it isn't required. But I'm definitely glad I worked as a CNA before going to school to be a nurse.

Here in North Carolina, most of the ADN programs I have looked at required you to be listed on the NA 1 Registry before you even apply. Some allow you to apply without being on the registry if you are completing a NA program or waiting to take the state test, you just have to be on the registry by the time the semester starts if you are accepted into a program. There is only one school around here that I know does not require you to be on the NA 1 registry and I assume that they will be changing their requirements soon.
