Nurses General Nursing

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what a certified nursing assistant can do that a non certified nursing assistant can't do. Thanks for your help.

i don't believe there's a difference. the federal government passed a law that all u.s. states must maintain a registry of certified nursing assistants that have been trained and tested in nursing skills. i've forgotten which federal law this comes under at the moment, but as a result all states now have a registry. a person can work as an uncertified nursing assistant for only a short grace period. these rules are many times printed out on the website of the state agency that has been given the responsibility of administrating the nursing registry in each state. sometimes it is the state health department; sometimes the nursing department. you can find out who the agency is in your state by going to the sticky thread that has a link to the list on the the cna - nursing assistant discussions forum of allnurses

There is also the law that if you receive federal monies, your staff (CNA's) have to be certified.
