CNAs: When is the last time you were thanked/recognized?

When is the last time you were thanked for doing a good job? Heck or even shown some appreciation?

What did you do to earn it?

Is hard work recognized at your facility?

Share your stories :D

We actually have two or three nurses who make sure to thank the aides every night. We also have a new administrator who will give you a small prize (a pen, a cup, a change purse, etc.) if she notices you working extra hard or taking extra time to give attention to the residents.

It does make for a much better work atmosphere!

I agree with the bolded.

It is amazing how a simple but sincere "thanks" holds such power.

I want to work in a facility like yours.

My father was in one hospital for 4 months straight and was a pain in the butt to the CNA's and Nurses some of the time. He realized this so after he was discharged he went and got a HUGE Edible Arrangement (it's a bouquet of fruit made to look like flowers) and a thank you card for the entire floor.

On my usual unit, I am never thanked. The nurses can always find something to complain about.

When I float to other units, the nurses gush with thanks and tell me how much they appreciate me (which makes me feel :) and want to go back).

Once a month admin recognizes a CNA who supposedly did an exceptional job and gives them some sort of prize. Unfortunately, the good ones (myself included :lol2:) never get it. It's usually used to bolster the self-esteem of the crappier aides (like the ones that are outside smoking every 15 minutes and give terrible or nonexistent care to their residents).

There's a picky nurse that's very hard to work with who says things to me quite often. And some of the other CNAs tell me they like to work with me. And I've overheard other CNAs saying good things about me. But the facility itself only seems to recognize certain people... if you're in a certain clique, a suck up, or someone who's worked there forever, you can do no wrong. The rest of us are ignored.

That's is how my place is run as well. If are not a butt kisser, you can fuhgetabout (typo intentional) being recognized or even liked. It is sad because the truly good CNAs pack up and go when they wisen up.

I am just so disheartened lately but I feel stuck between a mountain and a tsunami. :crying2::down:

As a prn staff nurse, I have no clout within my organization and it doesn't mean anything beyond the words leaving my mouth :), but I always make a point of thanking the CNAs I work with at the end of every shift I work (unless it's a CNA I particularly dislike or someone who really doesn't even try), and complimenting them for anything that's extra or particularly well done. I hear, though, that I'm pretty much the only RN in the facility who ever says anything positive to any other staff ...

Tongiht I got a sincere Thank You from a resident tonight that told me that all "us girls" gave him the best care he could ever hope for and that he appreciated it more then he could ever tell us. He said we were all lifesavers and angels. It was heartfelt. Almost made me cry!

And also tonight I got another sincere "Thank you so much I appreciate everything you do to help me"

One of the nurses always Thanks us for doing a good job.

Well, just last night, one of my residents held my hands and told me I had beautiful eyes. He then invited me to get in bed with him ;)

Seriously, I am often thanked by residents, and used to say a kind of awkward "sure," in response, but since I was lectured by a former police officer on manners, I always say "You're welcome". I have had residents who order me around like a servant, and it really stings. Of course I do what they ask, but it's so much more pleasant to be treated as a friend.

I've only gotten a personal message once from management, after I sat and read to a resident in the lobby during a slow time. I've never been recognized by management for just doing my job. I have been thanked by nurses when I did something that made their job easier. I always thank other CNAs for their help, and they often thank me.

Every day! After being lectured by a psychology instructor on the significance of responding "you're welcome," I say it.

Im thank decently often by my patients. The other day i was floated to another floor which was a bit of a bummer, but i got so many thank yous! that it made the night worth it. The one little old lady thanked me for helping her, and for having such a great attitude. :-) Even was determined to reward me in candy and cash. And last night I was a sitter for a patient and he thanked me for talking to him and for genuinely caring.
