CNA Hours

What are the typical CNA hours?

I'm hoping to find out that they are similar to a nursing schedule of 3 12-hour shifts.

Yeah, I work 2 12hrs and 1 8 and get full time benifits along with making time and a half for the 24hrs. And also get paid 40 dollars extra a week than I would working M-F.

Can't speak for the PCA's at hospitals but the CNA's in LTC facilities around here have the standard 8hr shifts 7a-3p, 3p-11p, 11p-7a. Even the LPN's and RN's in the LTC around here do the standard 8 hr shifts.

I work in LTC, they are 8 hour shifts. 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am.

. When we are told that we HAVE to stay and we say we cannot, our job is threatened.

I would check with your state board of nursing. I know here in PA, they can not legally mandate overtime.

hey, here in IL there are a few different types of shifts. I have seen 12 hour shifts in "specilty areas" in hopital and rehab sections and 8, 10 and even 8 1/2 hours in nursing facilities. The shifts here typically run in 3 shifts for the 8 hours a 7-3, 3-11 and 11-7 shift. 12's are rough though, i worked those for about 7 months

I work at a hospital and i can pick whether i want to work 12's or 8's. In my opinion i would rather work 12's and savor the four days off!!!! But in my case i have to work 12's because my days off consist of school..

I work at an ALF (assisted living facility)

We have a TON of different shifts... 6 am-2 pm, 7 am-3 pm, 7 am - 7 pm, 3 pm - 11 pm, 4 pm - 12 pm, 5 pm - 10 pm, 11 pm - 7 am... lol you get the idea! I doubt this is the norm though. We also have half shifts available.

My favorite is 6-2 because I love getting out at 2:00.

The nursing home I work at does 6-2, 2-10, 10-6. I worked 10-6 first for 6 months, then 2-10 for 6 months, and now i'm on 6-2. The morning shift is definitely my favorite, it goes by soo fast and I have so much time after work.

Also, I try to get atleast 4 doubles in a month, that's 16 hours shifts. About 80% of the aids in my facility do double shifts, we couldn't pay our bills if we didn't, (we make 9.75 an hour). The aids that do doubles are generally considered the more valuable aids to our management and supervisors, so like when I was about to be fired for being late too many times in a month, they decided to keep me because of all the extra work I do.

16 hour shifts suck though. They're evil.

I can't think that this is even safe - for you or for your residents.

Here is a perfect example where I think states should absolutely MANDATE standards, shift hours and also nurse assistant to resident RATIO, that is reasonable.

I agree. Why should there not be standards in our hours? There is no way that is safe.

U.S. Government: I can't believe you people are concerned about internet piracy, when there are many more pressing issues.
