Hi everyone,
I'm wondering what happens if you're already a CNA through the school that you are taking LPN from. The syllabus clearly states that CNA is what's covered the entire first LPN semester and I can't imagine having to take it twice? Although I've never heard of someone jumping into LPN in the second semester. I'm going to call the nursing department next week to ask, but thought I'd put it here in case anyone has any experience with this. :) Thanks!

i began my 2nd semester in an lpn program in january, just for some background.
the first semester was way more than cna work, although the clinical skills in the begining were basically the same. we learned iv's, fluid and electrolyte balance, o2 administration, maslow's hierarchy of needs, etc.my program is 3 semesters, and it is through a community college.

The CNAs in my course went through it again. The bare bones of the tasks might be the same, but the context is different.

I'm a CNA that is also a LPN student in my first module. I am thankful to be going through basic CNA skills again. After doing it for 6+ years, it's nice to be refreshed on how things should be done. It's also been a bonding experience with all of my classmates and I would not gain anything by missing it.

As the previous posters stated you do a whole lot more than CNA duties when you start out.
Embrace the fact that you already know the CNA stuff and take the opportunity to assist your fellow classmates that might be struggling with a certain procedure. There are a lot of CNA's in my program and we all help the ones that are not sure on how to transfer a pt, turning, ect.
CNA is the foundation, but you start there for a reason. Since you already know the CNA duties, you can concentrate on the other skills that you need to know as well before you begin your clinicals...GT insertion, Foley Cath Care, Physical Assesment, etc.
