  1. Hi everyone, I'm wondering what happens if you're already a CNA through the school that you are taking LPN from. The syllabus clearly states that CNA is what's covered the entire first LPN semester and I can't imagine having to take it twice? Although I've never heard of someone jumping into LPN in the second semester. I'm going to call the nursing department next week to ask, but thought I'd put it here in case anyone has any experience with this. :) Thanks!
  2. Great! Thanks so much for the advice!
  3. Hm... if it's any help at all, I was taught in class to roll the patient to the side as if you were changing a diaper, and place the bedpan underneath at that time, while holding it in place until they're on their back again.
  4. Hello! In June I completed my 5-month long CNA program, and recently got hired at a Nursing home for the 11pm-7am night shift. I start next week, but am entirely clueless how to start out the shift! Do I wake up normally for that day (7 or 8am) and take a nap before work (7-9pm)? I don't want to stay up all day for my 11pm start and be exhausted by morning! And also, after work at 7am, is it best to go to sleep immediately and wake up around 2-3pm, or stay up until 2 or 3 and sleep until 9-10pm before work at 11? I hope this makes sense! Also, can I expect to be very busy during that shift, or is it usually slow? Thanks for your help!
  5. At 17 I was the youngest in my CNA class. The next oldest was in her early thirties.
  6. I have the same problem (5'2" and 115lbs), but last week I found that Cherokee makes size XXS Petite for the same price as the other scrubs, and they fit GREAT. I would definitely look into those.
  7. Hello! I'm currently in the clinical portion of my 5-month long CNA program. Only a few more weeks left! We were required to wear scrubs in the classroom as well as during clinicals. We also have required colors (white top and red bottoms). We were also assigned an employed aide at our clinical site who we shadow for the shift. They are the ones who "teach" us, but mainly they allow us to perform duties and certain procedures so that we can gain experience needed for the board test and for future employment. Most of the patients love the students, and many don't know the difference between the nurses, students, and aides! Good luck! :balloons:
  8. I had my very first 5-hour long CNA class last night. My instructor spent 95% of those hours explaining a detailed chronology of her life. The only half-relevant thing that was said was that "taking notes is usually a good thing". I'm sure hoping the second class (tonight) is better! Skimming through the text book is sure having me nervous, though; photos of enema procedures and toileting skills has me both grossed out and anxious! :barf01: What were your experiences like in CNA school, and how long did it take for you to overcome the initial squeamishness of the job! Thanks! -A
  9. Hi all- I recently came upon this community. I am a full-time college student fulfilling the pre-requisites for Dental Hygiene. I am also currently enrolled in a 4 month long CNA course at the local technical school. I start my classes next week, and am very excited! My question lies here-- How many of you life solely off your CNA wages? At least in my area and surrounding counties, rent is high, so I'm worried that I won't be able to remain independent once I leave my parents' house. I will continue to take college courses while working as a CNA, so I would only be able to work 25-30 hours weekly. Should this be sufficient? I'm a bit unfamiliar in this field, so any insight would be greatly appreciated! Nice to meet you all, too! -Alexandra
