I did an agency shift yesterday at a hospital that has cloth gowns for use in contact isolation rooms. It was great! They are much more comfortable and easier to use. You throw it in a laundry bin after each use and they wash them. Much better than those horrid disposible ones! I really loved this hospital, it was a great experience there and I guess they liked me since there was a message on my phone this morning asking me back.
Has anyone seen washable gowns?
The facility I work at has both the cloth and disposable isolation gowns. To be honest I hate the cloth gowns! The wrists on them are too tight for me (and other people apparently since most of the wrists are cut which ruins them) and they are more difficult to get off then the disposable ones which I can just rip off when I'm in a hurry. I'm glad we have both but I really prefer the disposable gowns.

My facility is considering changing to cloth isolation gowns for cost savings. They seem confortable but would require a laundry holder in each room. I'm concerned about the maintainence of the fluid barrier over time with many washings. The amount of space for stocking will be much larger as they take up twice as much space as a paper gown. I would be very interested to hear additional comments about the pros and cons.
