Cloth isolation gowns.

I did an agency shift yesterday at a hospital that has cloth gowns for use in contact isolation rooms. It was great! They are much more comfortable and easier to use. You throw it in a laundry bin after each use and they wash them. Much better than those horrid disposible ones! I really loved this hospital, it was a great experience there and I guess they liked me since there was a message on my phone this morning asking me back.

Has anyone seen washable gowns?

My facility is considering changing to cloth isolation gowns for cost savings. They seem confortable but would require a laundry holder in each room. I'm concerned about the maintainence of the fluid barrier over time with many washings. The amount of space for stocking will be much larger as they take up twice as much space as a paper gown. I would be very interested to hear additional comments about the pros and cons.

Cloth? Sounds great!

We have either the paper ones, which alway rip, or soak through, or whatever. OR we have the plastic which as we all know ... you sweat your butt off in.

I'll have to take a looksie at those :)

Would you be willing to share the reason for discontinuing use of cloth isolation gowns? Thanks.

We still have some cloth isolation gowns floating around, but we use them mainly for keeping warm around the nurses station. Our carts have just the disposable kind.

The facility I work at has both the cloth and disposable isolation gowns. To be honest I hate the cloth gowns! The wrists on them are too tight for me (and other people apparently since most of the wrists are cut which ruins them) and they are more difficult to get off then the disposable ones which I can just rip off when I'm in a hurry. I'm glad we have both but I really prefer the disposable gowns.

No. All I've ever used are the yellow disposable gowns. Some of them had that dreadful plastic tape neck fastener. ARRHHH!

OMG disposable is awful they stick or become static like and are hassle to put on and tie sometimes the knot will not come undone. I have never tried the cloth ones sounds interesting and better for the enviroment.

My place has the yellow disposable ones AND these blueish clothlike ones. The blue ones felt like they had an impervious slick exterior coating. I prefer them as it doesn't feel like monsoon season underneath them.
