Not sure i completely understand the question as far as what skills are we talking? Procedural like how to give an IM injection? or how to insert a foley?...etc... As boring as they may be it is imperative you DO know all the minute details. These are basic skills you will apply all the time and it is an important foundation on which to build. Studying and learning all you can is the best advice, you will not stop learning even after you finish school . Not sure what block you are in but as far as studying goes for the HESI, nursing exams are written to test not only your knowledge but on your ability to utilize critical thinking......
You will need to know the details about the skills in order to do well on your tests. You have to evalute the question, use your knowledge base, apply your critical thinking skills, and find the best nursing answer to the question presented.

In my nursing skills class I am having difficulty spending time studying because I am not very interested. I find it to be busy work. Having to memorize every minute detail of procedures for lecture exams is not going to help me develop my nursing skills in any way. Does anyone else feel this way? Currently I have a 78 (75 is passing) in the class, and am worried that I'm going to do poorly on the HESI and cumulative final. I am getting A's in my other classes because I actually enjoy the coursework. Any advice as to study for the HESI, and how to maintain my grade for another month?
