Hello everyone, this is my first post on allnurses, I'm starting my clinical rotations fairly soon and need to purchase a stethoscope and a penlight; I want to get one that are not too expensive but that would work great and that I could use even after my graduation. Here are three stethoscopes that I have been contemplating, I wanted to ask your opinion in regards to which would be best. Your help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks

The Littmann Classic III could be useful because it can be used to auscultate both adult and pediatric patients. 5 year warranty. $10 more expensive than the Classic II
The Littmann Clasic II S.E. Is a very classical stethoscope which is used mostly for adult patients. 3 year warranty. Middle line in price
The MDF MD One is made out of stainless steel and the company offers a lifetime warranty on the product as well as free replacement parts for life. Used mostly for adults. Cheapest option out of the three.

As for the penlight I have seen two that I am interested in but I'm not sure which to get due to the fact that one has a warm white/yellowish light and the other has a brighter white light. which would be the correct color/type of light to use?

Welcome to AN! For new students, I say get the $15.00 Sprague-Rappoport type as you can change it to pediatric scope, you can have bell & diaphragm for adult/med surg.
I do have a question, you list BSN, RN, so am confused if you are already an RN would you not already have this equipment, which makes me think you are not a nurse yet? if you are not yet, then please change your username.
As for the penlight, get the disposable type with the pupil size printed on it.
I taught undergrad assessment for 5 years and don't recommend students buying a super fancy cardiology scope until you need one.

OP, are you maybe in grad school? I hope you are not falsifying your credentials here.
My school (long ago) specifically advised us to get the cheapest stethoscope we could find for nursing school. Nursing students are not making any life-or-death decisions based on how well they can hear heart, breath, or bowel sounds; stethoscopes tend to get lost or "walk away" in clinical settings (and having an expensive, desirable stethoscope increases the chances of the latter happening :)), and, if you buy yourself an expensive 'scope for school, what is your family supposed to get you later as a graduation gift?? A nice stethoscope is a traditional graduation gift for new nurses.
Ditto for the penlight -- get the cheapest one you can find.
Nursing school is expensive enough already; you certainly don't need to be looking for opportunities to spend extra money. Every "extra" penny you spend while in school will be money you either have to pay back (as a student loan) or money you have to take time away from your studies and limited social life while in school to earn. Embrace the "starving student" lifestyle now! :)
Best wishes for your journey!

My school "gave" us the classic II ( we paid for it as part of a very large lab fee). It was good for school and is my back-up one now. As for the penlight buy a large and cheap pack off Amazon. They are so easy to lose. My dad makes pens as a hobby and he wanted to make me a fancy pen with penlight and I honestly told him thanks, but not to bother- I'd eventually loose it. I tend to buy these Amazon.com: Dixie Ems Colored Disposable Penlight with Pupil Gauge, 6 Count: Health & Personal Care
