I am a floor nurse, work 3 12 hour day shifts a week and love it. Love my job, love the patients, love the schedule. However, I am a relatively new single mother and just can't keep doing this schedule. I depend heavily on my mother to watch my child and her health is starting to fail. I can't afford a nanny and there is no daycare open my crazy hours.
I am looking at ideas I may not have thought of for nursing jobs WITH PATIENT CONTACT that are M-F daytime hours 30-40 hrs a week. I don't want to do case mgt or chart review - I really want to do patient care. I know there is office nursing, school nursing, home health and short stay surgery. . .any other ideas out there? I know there are all sorts of nursing jobs people are unaware of.
Just looking for ideas - thank you!

Almost every nursing home/LTC facility where I've ever worked has been staffed with 8 hour shifts (7:00am to 3:00pm or 6:00am to 2:00pm).

I currently work 7am to 4pm (an hour for lunch), weekends off and paid holidays off. Never any overtime as well. I am a psychiatric nurse in an outpatient psychiatric clinic. I spend 15-30 min with each client, assessing and doing patient education. I pay almost as much as I would if I were hospital nursing, even though it's a state job. I love my job. I was previously in the ICU and because of circumstances, I ended up leaving the ICU and coming here. I am very happy with my job and love my patients, for the most part! I have 3 kids and having weekends off, as well as always being home for the holidays, is awesome. I have no complaints :-)

There is school nursing. Work during school hours M-F, weekends off, summers off, all holidays off :) It seems like a lot of ambulatory clinics are staffed as 8 hour shifts. My husband is military and I go to a military clinic (not an urgent care) and they are only open M-F.
