clinical/grading system

What is the grading system like in your clinical? In my school, your only allowed to make 3 freakin mistakes n then your out!

For us, in clinical (and clinical learning lab), you either get an S (satisfactory) or a U (unsatisfactory). There are no grades per say, but you have to achieve a certain amount to move on because class and clinical are linked hand in hand, so if you have a 90% average in class but are U in clinical, you fail and have to repeat the whole course. The same goes for if you have a 74.9 in class but are S in clinical, and in fact, did a fantastic job, you fail and have to repeat (75 is passing).

Our clinical is graded pass/fail. You can pass, pass with warning, or outright fail. If you get 2 warnings in one rotation, you are removed from the course and must repeat it. We have evaluations that we go over with our clinical instructors at the end of the rotation. I don't think there is a set number of "mistakes" that automatically fails you. I believe it's more on the instructor's discretion ...which is kind of scary.

Do you mean 3 mistakes and you fail clinical or 3 mistakes you fail clinical and are out of the program? The latter was how my program was, kinda harsh:sniff:

In ours if you fail clinical you are out of the program. They go hand in hand, lecture and whatever clinical you are at. IE: Psych class and Psych Clinicals. You have to pass the lecture part with a min. of 77% and the clinical part and all encompassed in it like care maps and stuff is pass fail. You have to pass both of you are dismissed from the program. I would think that is pretty standard since they go together. When grades come out after each class, it's not 2 grades, it's just our lecture grade on our transcript.

I just asked cause some programs you can take over any failed course but usually only once. Differs from program to program.

You can redo one class once in ours too, although everyone that failed med/surge beginning of second semester hasn't gotten back in yet cause there is "no room". But that said, clinicals at least at our school aren't considered a separate course. So if you fail clinical or the lecture part and are lucky enough to get readmitted at a later date, you have to retake both the clinical and lecture part of the course. Even if you passed one of them.
