CLEP Preps or TCN Preps?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi Guys. First off, I met with a rep from TCN yesterday, but I'm not going to sign with them. My question is, for those who've already taken the CLEP/Dantes/Excelsior. What is better study material? CLEP books or TCN study guides?

And in phase II, how do I get the 4 nursing modules? I didn't see any on Ebay :(

Thank you!!

Ok, I think you are speaking of ISU due to the 4 study guides, they are hard to find. My plan is if I can't get the 3 I still need on ebay by the time I get there, then I'll just buy only those from TCN. As to the study materials I use a combo of all of them. TCN are good, check out local book stores for REA Clep books, instacert.com is great, also go to the Excelsior site look at the online course for that test it will have a link to the bookstore and the recommended textbook. Look for a cheap one on amazon even if its a little older. Try the instacert.com disscussion forum-great people with lots of ideas and resourses for testing out. Good luck

thank you so much for those great tips! greatly appreciated!!:specs:

Once you get into the ISU nursing program you will get emails from other students. Several times throughout the year you get emails from other students selling modules. That's one way to find them if ebay doesn't have anything.

I used the TCN study guides for all the pre-reqs that I didn't take at another school. I really prefer them over textbooks because it's just so much more concise.

If ISU is not approved in a state does it mean that you can't get a preceptor in that state?

Thanks for that advice. BTW,how much did the students sell their CSMs for? The advisor told me that it will be 1500 for the for modules. Do you know anyone who had trouble getting the complete modules?

Do students also send e-mails about selling their TCN study notes for the GE? I'm having a hard time finding Intro to Computers and Gerontoloty.

are you in phase III already? Is it true you take the exams on the computer based on an honor system? I have a hard time believing that, but that's what the advisor told me.

Thank you!!

No that's not true. You have to have an approved proctor. Usually a library or a cc. Which advisor told you that? TCN person? I take mine at a local cc. Most of the classes require a proctor for the final exams and you do ATI so that also requires a proctor. You'll be using your proctor a lot so find one you like...you'll become good friends. lol! I'm in phase III. Starting my senior year in January. :yeah:

I've got the Gerontology. I use mine well so if you aren't picky PM me. I take the exam on it October 8th. I highlight a lot and I fill in all the study questions but the practice exam you do on another sheet of paper so it's untouched.

I think they sell them for around $100 or so from what I've seen. I got mine for $250 a piece but that's because TCN was running a special at the time so keep an eye out for that too.

I'm not sure. It may just mean you need to get your initial license in another state but ?? I know when we almost got transferred to a state that wasn't yet accepted Kim C. told me that there were options in case that happened. We didn't end up transferring so I didn't need to pursue the options.
