Hi everyone! I'm a new pre nursing student and I'm somewhat overwhelmed by all the science prerequisites I still need to take.
This being said I just learned about clepping classes- specifically lifespan growth and development AND biology. I know I could pass these exams, but I'm scared that it won't look as good on my application to nursing school. I know I can get a's in these classes but I would only take them if it would look bad to CLEP both of those classes, which i understand are important.
Also, I'm scared that clepping biology will make me underprepared for microbiology.
I could really use some advice, registration for next semester is ending soon! Thank you in advance!

If you feel like you would be underprepared for micro by clapping then you have answered yourself. The oath to nursing is not short. Don't try to speed things up by reducing your learning. If it was English or math or something basic that you are good at, then sure. But never the sciences.

Likewise, if you are concerned about how a CLEP score will look on your college transcript, just go ahead and take the course and you won't have to be concerned.

I CLEP'd out of Sociology ~ Best decision, ever.
I studied for a week and a half and passed the exam.
I cannot believe that is still a required class. What a joke.
I've since went on to get two higher degrees.

DITTO I clepped out of Sociology (very easy) and ALL English courses. Of course, that was back in the dark ages, when the Earth's crust was still cooling. If you have taken AP-level courses in high school, it's not a very difficult process. It saves a ton of time and money. FWIW, if the clep score is reported as "pass" it doesn't affect your GPA at all.
OTOH, I do not advise clepping any of the life sciences courses because you need a much deeper understanding of the content in order to serve as a foundation for your clinical nursing courses.
Best of luck to you in your nursing education journey
Thank you!!

You need to check specifically with your Nursing School counselors. A lot of Nursing Programs wont accept you CLEP out the prereqs... probably because if you pass all you get is credit which doesn't affect your GPA. Nursing School admissions is all about the GPA. IF you are allowed it'll probably just be the two Psych courses, Soc and if you're lucky Bio or Math classes that you can test out. Do the research before you prepare to do those exams. Much luck to you! Study! Study!

Hi,
Just be careful because if you CLEPP classes I think it is only good for credit at that school and cannot be transferred should you decide to go to another school or further your degree later! I could be wrong about this though.

I've CLEP'd classes before, and they are transferable.
In that case, CLEP on!
