I need 6 elective credits for my degree. Has anyone ever taken this and have any pointers? Im currently using the REA guide and college network module. I have to admit, im not a very good reader and I can not seem to get into this material. Any pointer, advice, would be greatly apperciated! Thanks

I took it and passed. I learned in Elementary class was to read the questions first and then the passage. You will usually find the answer quicker. Its basically reading and then answer the question. Just a lot of reading

I also took it and I passed it. I thought it was really straightforward just time consuming as it is all reading comprehension and some of the passages are long, I think I finished with 4 mins remaining! Just brush up on literary terms like similies, iambic pentameter, etc. and read through a bit of old English lit because I had alot of Shakespeare on mine. You'll do great :-)

I can't remember how I found it but there is a way to get on Peterson's to take the free practice exams, if I can find it I will post it. There is a way to get 3 practice tests for it somewhere...

I took this cold because its extremely difficult to study for. Look over the literary terms mentioned above and wing it.....that's about all you can do for studying. Its a loonnnnggggg test though and be sure to watch the clock. I'm sure you will pass.

i took this test about 4 months ago. honestly there is not much to study. i got the rea book as well and did the practice test. basically it is a test where you either know it or you dont. you either learned it in school growing up or you didnt. not really a good way to study.

with that being said..... its so worth the $77 to take it. if you fail, oh well. but, if you pass you just knocked out 6 hrs of humanities for $77. which is awesome. i did it and passed. it was for sure worth it!

good luck!!

How long does this class take to do?! I read somewhere, 2 semesters??! As in, one year? I need 3 humanities, and I really wish I could either just do it online from home (no running to Pearson) or if I must run to Pearson, then is there that I can do in less than a month?

the analyzing and interpreting lit is a clep test. you go to a local college or testing center to take the test. as soon as you schedule and take the test, you are done. you get 6 credits of humanities/electives for this one. well worth $77 to give it a try. i bought the rea book and did the practice tests and read through it, then took the test a few days later. easiest 6 credits i have ever got. however, if you dont have a strong background in reading literature and understanding what it is saying, it may be more difficult for you. for me it was worth a shot and knocking out 6 credits.

can you schedule them at pearson vue? how long does the exam take, or rather, how many questions?

in my area pearson did not offer it. i went to a itt technical insitute that administered them. there were several places like that around me that will give them. i can't remember how many questions, but the time was about 90 min or so. i used every bit of that time. the questions are setup to where you read a excerpt of a story, poem, etc. and then they ask you a series of questions about what you just read. most of the excerpts were from british or old english writers, so the grammer and language was not what i was used to. that is the hard part.

also, the outline says it can test you on literary terms. my test however, did not. mine was basically read the excerpt and then go look at line __________ and tell what that meant. the questions are multiple choice.

hope this helps!

no prob! i think this is an excellent way to get credit quickly and cheaply. i will answer any questions you have! :)

go to cleps website, and search for a testing location near you. call the testing location to set up an appt for you to test. when you get there they set you up at a computer and you enter your credit card info on that computer. also, some testing sites charge $20-25 to test there. itt institute charges $25.

Sharwell, have you done the Intro to Sociology CLEP? I am thinking of doing that one instead of Gerentology because of the price. I heard from a few people it's easy, and a few that it's hard. I have the REA book for this one but I am starting out pretty cold, I haven't taken Sociolgy in years.
