Just wondering...I know when I applied for the Fall semester I got my letter saying I didn't get in around late March/early April. I am guessing for Spring 2008, with the cutoff being the first Wednesday in September I should expect it sometime in October/November? Anyone know?
Went to orientation yesterday. I asked how many people fail the PE at the end and she said rarely anyone in 171 - about 2-3 last semster. Does this sound right? I am excited after going to the meeting yesterday. I just bought the modules packet yesterday and we have an assignment before the semester starts. I also found out that my clinicals are an hour away. She said that we go 10 times in the first semester so that's not so bad. She seems great. I really like her personality. I can only assume that you know who I'm talking about. Dumb question....does our semester end on December 13th like the rest of the programs/classes? Trying to plan ahead. Thanks
Awesome...I'm jealous!!! I need to just get done with this...I've been going to school too long and I'm ready for the last four classes!
So glad all seemed to go well. Clinicals are an hour away? Where are they at? Did they give you a list of the hospitals that you could possibly be expected to go to? Gosh...now I'm freakin'! If they are an hour away, I'd have to leave REALLY early from work! I just hope they are understanding!
You will get in. We all (59 of us...the 60th didn't show so they're out!) introduced ourselves and one girl said she has been waiting 3 years to get in. Keep trying...you'll do it. I live in the Lake Villa area and need to go to Woodstock for the first semester. It's only 10 times total and once a week so I won't be so bad. We get assigned a different place each semester so we get a more rounded practice. Keep your mind in it.

Hi...
Re: Books. I just attended the Nursing Information meeting and found out that for your first semester you should estimate about $800 for books. The following semesters will add a book or two to add to your collection. Additionally, by Spring 08, the current selection of books will be revised as Dr. Jesuit recently found out that some books will no longer be in print. Just something to keep in mind until then...

I'm in Lake Villa as well!!!
Oh, only one time a week...that's not so bad. I'll just have to figure out the drive time and stuff...what time is your class? I'll be going at night, so I'll just leave straight from work and head out there...hopefully it won't be too bad. Woodstock is quite a drive! Best of luck to you!!! And thanks for the encouragement! Just stopped in today to fill out my Nursing Application and also sign up to take the test on the 28th...there were minimal spots left to take the test, so I decided I'd better get in there and sign up!!! I'll certainly keep you posted. Oh, and they said we won't get our letters until November...what a bummer!!!

Wonderful, so no option to buy used I suppose!!! More than likely they will be brand new...I prefer used books since they are less expensive, but if not, I'll suck it up and buy the new... Thanks for the info...I guess I know what my bonus check will be used for!
I am about to go into the second semester at CLC and I didn't spend $800 on books! That must be the new book price they gave you. Keep looking, you can find them used for much cheaper. I probably only spent like $250-300ish. Plus, you don't need to buy them all at once either, because you will be doing different units along the way.
My suggestion is to buy Potter and Perry (you might be able to find this used, because it's been out for a little bit now, but I had a hard time finding it used because it had just been published. I had to really DIG, but I did end up with a used copy!), your modules (about $50, there's really no way to get that used!), and a nursing diagnosis book (you don't necessarily need Carpenito, any decent nursing diagnosis book will do) to start off with, and then find out from your teacher what you will really need and roughly when you'll need it so you can space it out a little bit. Sometimes you'll only need a book for just one chapter of it and then it may be worth it to just go to the library to read it there (they check the textbooks out for like 1-2hrs at a time), if you're really tight on $$!
Do not go out and buy all of the books the CLC bookstore says you need before your term starts! A lot of us did that and the first day of class we found out that half of them were wrong!
Good luck! Welcome to the program!

If you're talking about the director of the program, then yes, I agree. I like her too. She does have an enthusiastic personality. She is trying to facillitate some positive changes in the program. She's just had a hard time getting through some of the political red tape and opposition from some of the faculty. I do know of some changes that are definitely coming soon, and hopefully there will be more in the future.
I know what you mean about the clinical site being far away. I live in Volo and we had two sites last semester, one in Deerfield and one in Zion. At 10:30 at night, when I have to be up at 5am the next morning, that's a rough drive home! But like you said, once a week is doable.
Your classes should end with the rest of the classes. That's when your final exam is, after the PE's are all finished.
I personally know of 3 who failed from 171 last term (don't know if there's more), and one of them sued the school and won, so she's going on to 172. So yes, most do pass, especially the first semester. Just start practicing for it right away. I focused on that more than anything else, because as much as I wanted good letter grades, I knew that the PE made the difference on whether I went on to 172 or not, and that was more important than the difference between an A and a B...
Good luck!:welcome:

I waited until November for mine, too! It was horrible waiting! But they had told us we would get them in October, so that made it even harder to wait 1 more whole month! At least now you know when to expect it, lol! Good luck!

Oh, yes, that would drive me nuts!!! To wait longer than what they told me I'd have to! I'm hoping they'll get them out earlier...that just seems like an awful long time to wait and so close to when we need to sign up for our next semester classes.
i agree. the texts will not cost $800 unless you go to the bookstore and buy new. i'm currently finding all my books online as i type this. question for you....do we need the cd rom for the potter and perry book?
