Congrats to all those that are accepted and will be the class of 2015. I thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can support each other along our journey. Mine is an ADN program, but I know some will be BSN as well.
With all that aside has anyone had their nursing orientation yet? How was it? What are some of the costs you have to dish out? Did it finally sink in that you will be starting nursing school soon?
Mine isn't until May 29th 9a-3p. I do know that our tops will be white and our bottoms will be green. I also know we are required to have an iPad which is included in our financial aid. I also know I have to pay $66.00 just for the drug test. The program pays for our in state CORI/SORI but I had to pay for my out of state one which was $31.00. I just payed for that today. We will be required to buy the books, stethoscope, name pin, uniforms, warm up jacket, lab coat, and more. So exciting. We will also schedule our classes on orientation day.
Lets get to know each other so we can support each other :)
I finally finished everything I need for the nursing, shots, physical, CPR, etc.. I'm so excited! Now to get my scrubs and wait for orientation!!
How exciting!! I sure hope I can get all my shot records together. There are some I know I haven't had or need boosters, but it would stink to redo some that I've already had! I wonder if my insurance would pay for the titers.
Orientation isn't until August and its only 3 hours, so I'm not sure what it all entails. I already have all my health requirements done, I have my booklist and have ordered some books. I have almost all my supplies, I need to order my uniforms still. I'm so excited though!!!
Did your school give you a list of what all you needed to have and do? My orientation isn't until December and I start classes in January, so I'll only have a month to get everything done. I'd love to get going on some of that stuff now, when I have the extra time!
We had our first class on Monday (Foundations of Med/Surg). My clinical group had our first skills lab yesterday where we learned/practiced VS, mobility, and bed-making. Today we had our first Pharm class. So far, I've been staying ahead on all my readings and I try to understand as much as possible before lectures, and then use the lectures as a method of clarification. I'm hoping this system works for me and my grades reflect all my hard work throughout the semester!
Good luck to everyone who has already begun and to everyone who is beginning classes soon!
Week one is done and....wow!!! I don't think I've studied that much in my life. Even when I took 17 credits of pre-reqs in a single semester. Holy cow
I think once we get a few weeks under our belts, it won't feel so overwhelming. We had an optional seminar today about Study Tips & Test Taking skills and I'm very glad I went. Nursing school is so different from other college courses and the way you study & prepare for the typical class is just too time consuming in nursing school. She taught us more effective ways to study and how to make the most of our time. I feel a LOT better about next week
Hope everyone is having a great semester so far. One week down, 15 more to go until winter break
Hi everyone! My first post here!
I start in two days and there's A LOT of required readings prior to start of class, it's really overwhelming But I'm very excited! I finished all my prereqs so I only have to take the nursing classes and an extra class of my choice to be considered full-time. WOOOOH CLASS OF 2015 WE GOT THIS!!
