class presentations

What class presentations do you do during the school year? I am a nurse for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. I have already done a germ/handwashing presentation for the 3rd grade and need ideas for the 4th and 5th graders. The last school nurse did not leave any information on what she did and I need to do class presentations as part of the new evaluation guidelines for teachers,(including school nurses).

Many do a puberty presentation for 5th grade. An anti-bullying session would be very appropriate for 4th grade (especially the girls!)

I've done a "measure your calcium intake" thing also in 5th, lice education is always appreciated, what is asthma, you name it. Maybe the classroom teachers could identify a need.

4th and 5th grade are often the puberty lessons - i do 4th grade girls only here and 5th grade boys only. I don't have time to be out of my office to teach much more than that. I pawn off dental teaching on the country dental coordinator (bless her!!) and I am working on having my local supermarket's resident dietician coming in to do a lesson in nutrition with my middle schoolers

I just did a hygeine class for 4th graders per request of the teachers. They said they weren't keeping themselves very clean or wiping well (yikes!) so I combined that with germs/illnesses. They are at that age where they quite haven't hit puberty yet (most of them) but they do need to be bathing more often and taking more responsibility for themselves.

We've done oral health, nutrition-making wise choices, puberty, handwashing,etc as well. If you have a diabetic in one of the classes you could do a class on that. Like someone else said asthma, lice, bullying, etc are all good ideas. Anything health related. Even something like protecting themselves from sports-related injuries for older ones.

I found knowing what the education weeks or months are, such as Dental health month, helps with ideas. Though, I don't need much help coming up with ideas because I have 7 schools, so hand hygiene and personal hygiene are in pretty high demand before I can even think about other things that could be taught. Maybe a class on nutrition/exercise? Our district does maturation at 5th and 6th grade.
