Hi all,
I am scheduled to take my first non-clinical nursing course this fall. I am also taking a science course also. Do yiu suggest I take microbiology or anatomy & physiology first? I know they are both difficult courses, but I'm not sure of taking one first will help me with the other.
Thanks!

At my school the A&Ps are prerequisites for micro. I really didn't see much of a correlation between the two (I didn't feel that the A&Ps were necessary for micro) But the A&Ps were significantly harder than micro. I'd take the harder ones first just to get them out the way of you have the choice.

Agreed. I would take A&P first. It was a lot more challenging than Micro.

I actually went against the norm where I took microbiology before taking A&P. The school I attended didn't require A&P before taking microbiology, but they RECOMMEND it. Because the A&P courses were all full (no surprises) and I didn't want to waste any valuable time, I got into the microbiology class instead.
My classmates previously completed their A&P series, so I did feel disadvantaged at that time. There was quite a bit of A&P terminology, so I had to look up those terms and do a self study to understand the lingo (not so horrible though). Now remember, I didn't have any A&P knowledge coming into the microbiology class. Overall, I did very well in the class (finished with a 100%). If anything, I felt I had an advantage for my A&P classes in the following semesters (e.g., glycolysis/Krebs cycle/electron transport chain, sodium-potassium pump, etc.).
There really is no right or wrong answer; as long as you meet the prerequisites (and did well) at your school, you will most likely do well in the class. Best of luck!

I'm currently toward the end of my Microbiology class right now, and my professor refers to quite a few topics that we cover in-depth in A&P II, such as immunity, edema, white blood cells and their receptors, cytokines, etc. I'm VERY glad I took A&P I & II before taking Micro.
I haven't registered yet but I have an appointment appointment with my academic advisor next month. Thanks for the advice!
I have an appointment with her the beginning of next month.
