Hi everyone,

I am applying for the City Tech Spring 2019 semester and would like to know what your experience was like during the 1st and 2nd semester as in what the program entails and what to expect.

Thank you!

oh wow thank you @baileon I have a GPA of 3.46 and plan on applying for fall 2019 im taking the TEAS in March soo nervous

I wouldn't take my chances having a 3.46 sorry to say. The gpa changes every semester and is dependent on the pool of applicants. If you can take a co-requisite to replace one of your grades and boost your gpa I'd highly recommend it.

Hey all,

I had a 3.8 GPA and my TEAS was a 94.5, I know in orientation they said they took GPA's all the way DOWN to 3.45 this last semester. I had a faculty advisor from the chem department(what I was majoring in before this) tell me that she rarely sees students with less than a 3.5 get in. When calculating your entrance GPA you have to consider only those four classes they are looking at. BIO 2311, ENG 1101, PSY1101, MAT1275. You also can do one course that is a swap out, like if you got a B- in A&P1, but an A+ in A&P2, you can denote on your application that you would like your BIO2312 class considered. However, I believe they only allow one swap out. I would say if you can take your lowest graded class over again. Especially if you have anything short of a B, take it again and apply for Spring 2020. You will have all summer (if they offer it) and next fall to ace it.

Good Luck

You should still apply, you never know what the cut off is each semester. Sometimes it's 3.5, sometimes its 3.3. You never know. but since your GPA is below 3.5, you may want to go super hard on TEAS and your current classes you're taking. Once you're in the program, you will see that not only is it difficult to stay in, but your GPA drops tremendously over the course of the program. Again, try your best, every semester is different. You can always try again, so no worries there. Good luck

Thank you so much for your encouragement I'm actually holding off on applying for this semester. I am Currently working full time and taking anatomy 2 now, it's a lot to study for the TEAS on top of that. I looking into spring 2020, thank you again❤️❤️❤️

Sounds promising. Just remember to stay positive no matter what. Whatever is worth it in your life requires some level of hard work.

@bizarreRN that means more than you know, thank you for your support.

Hi, I will be applying to City Tech for fall 2019 so that I could take my pre-requisites for the nursing program. I was wondering how is Eng Composition 2 what does it consists and also what is the best professor for that class. I am also confuse between Math 1275 and 1190 which one should I take? For the Bio 2311 and Bio 2312 how are the exams for those classes? If anyone still has their syllabus or any past exams please send it to this email [email protected] so I can know what's waiting for me once apply to this school. I would really appreciate it. I was going to apply for Medgar evers college but I heard it's hard to get into their nursing program and they only have it in spring. Unlike City tech they have it all semesters.

@Odess Queen Hi there, I am a transfer student from BMCC and this is my first semester here at City Tech. I am NOT in the program but what I can tell you is that while the program is competitive here, it is not as bad as the program at BMCC. At BMCC from what I was told is that they rarely go below past a 3.6GPA and they take a percent based on your Kaplan test score and count it toward the admission process much like Medgar Evers. I have a close friend who graduated from there program and it was tough. The math that I took at BMCC was med math, they require you to take that before you even apply to there program. It was a very easy class and I ended up with an A- for the course which transferred over as Math 1190. English happens to be a strong subject for me and ended up getting an A- as well. When it comes to A&P it is a no joke class, the level of material that you have to master in a short span of time is overwhelming especially if you have a lousy professor(which this school is filled with) and have to teach yourself the material. You MUST study every day to earn the best grade possible and utilize your time wisely, I personally recommend not working or taking other courses along with this class. Again this is MY experience, some people think it is easy and some people like myself, have some difficulty. I wish you all the best ❤️

Thanks so much for your message, I really appreciate it. You said your friend graduated from Medgar evers college right? What GPA they accept to get into the nursing at Medgar? How was the exam for A&P at City Tech? Are the exam for the lab are multiple choice or fill in the blank?

Hi @Odess Queen,

I do not know the entrance GPA but she's a pretty smart girl I think she told me her gpa was a 3.7 if not higher. At the time she was there there was no entrance exam it was Solely based on your GPA, I remember her telling me it was a very competitive program. As far as A&P exams go, from what I experienced it's only multiple choice but it really depends on the professor. Make YouTube your best friend when taking this class there are some pretty good videos on lecture material that you may see during your Lecture class.

So far i have a B+ in PSYC I'm averaging an A in ANP1 and I'm averaging an A- in ENG1. I will be taking quantitive reasoning this summer. I will officially apply for the program in the fall. Any tips will be gladly appreciated.

Did you get a chance to look at the application details in the NUR program? they have it online as well. You have to take your TEAs exam by April 26, 2019 with the overall passing score for the Exam= 65.3%. Deadline for application submission is May 3rd. You need 2.5 gpa minimum for your application to touch the desk of the dept. You need to pass your TEAS and have a minimum of 3.5 in your pre-req courses. And they accept students with 4.0 gpa going down. Some semesters they accept students with 3.3 gpa and some they dont have to go below 3.5 or 3.6. So it all depends on the applicant pool. I remember with my semester years ago, the dept did not have to go below 3.5gpa. But the semester after mine there were students with 3.4 gpa. It would be advisable to pull up your gpa, as once you're in the program, you will see your gpa start to drop tremendously. It's very hard to stay in the program but definitely doable. Also the dept will look at your A&P grades as well as they are very important for our nursing career. Having 'A's in your science courses are always advisable. Try to go back to older threads from previous years, you'll see students who post their own experiences and advice. Nonetheless, good luck in your journey. Hope you get in.
