City Tech Fall 2020

Published

Hi All,

Anyone else applying?

Specializes in IBCLC, Mother Baby.

I’m currently enrolled in City Tech’s nursing program and ugh. I wish I went to a different school.

@HopefulAutumn16 Hey! Whats wrong with the program? What are you experiencing? I'm thinking of applying for fall, do you know what the typical cutoff GPA is?

I made a reddit post asking about the nursing program at city tech. I got the same reaction from the person that responded. Now, I'm kinda worried...

Hi there @Anny I had a long conversation with a girl who's in the program now in the library and she said she's withdrawing after this semester and applying to NYU. She basically said she wouldn't even recommend this program even if it was your last resort, she said is designed to make you fail. I'm thinking about looking else where, I would hate to waste my time.

GPA is probably the least of the problem; practically everyone has a solid one. I think my cohort was a 3.47 or something like that. This program is disorganized, tests aren’t reviewed and it’s discouraged to even talk about them, prep you rationales were taken down due to some cheating scandal last semester and 42 people are repeating med-Surg 1 in my cohort. Today the third and fourth semester students were lined up bombarding the new chair about their grievances. Nobody is happy with this program and really, it seems to be designed to ensure that only about 15-20 get to the end and take the NCLEX. They have the highest passing NCLEX rate but it’s because so few make it to the end. Those that don’t are collateral damage and I’m worried myself.

Yeah the thing is after that reddit post, I considered Lehman or going to community college first (getting LPN then LPN to RN). I only ended up transferring here because I thought as long as I can get in then I can grind it out. If it's one person saying that then it might be a fluke, but if it's a lot then I don't know. At this point, I should've just stayed at Hunter and became a math teacher or an accountant/actuary or something. It just seems like nursing is just either impossible or going to bankrupt you. This is so discouraging.

I went to the nursing department many times and it seems like no one is really there. I guess I missed all the warning signs beforehand.

@Anny yes I completely agree, when Iv gone to the Department, it's either no one is there or they look like they're bothered to have you there. I will just be finishing up this semester and applying else where, when I spoke to this girl you can see it in her eyes she's was mentally over it. Best of luck on whatever you choose.

By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what was said on the reddit post?

I can link the reddit post but I went back to check and the person already deleted their comments. From memory, they said that city tech offers no support, they know people with lawsuits against city tech, go to a private or Lehman or anywhere else, and that city tech nursing difficulty is "on steroids".

Oh WOW!, that's scary. Yea, I definitely won't bother with this program. Like you said before, the fact that multiple students have the same story, there has to be an issue. @Anny

I think I ignored all the warning signs. I guess I was too arrogant. I thought that as long as I can get in, I can grind. My main thing is that I don't go into debt or at least too heavily in debt. When I applied to schools last year as a HS senior, I got into ubuffalo and they have a nursing program there. However, they were asking me to pay $15k a year (60k for 4 years) for dorming (IDK if that includes other costs like personal expenses). So, I went to hunter instead (which is way too competitive). I guess I shouldn't have been cheap, you can't be stingy with education.
