Hi All,
Anyone else applying?

Well IDK.. I know someone and a lot others who spoke about having a 3.6-3.7 GPA and with a 98 on the HESI and still didn’t get in

Yeah a lot of people may have their horror stories associated with the program that you are applying for but... that doesn't mean that you will go through the same fate. How many times have students had bad reviews over professors but it ended up being a completely different experience for you? IDK maybe I'm saying this cause I'll be applying to Citytech's nursing program in the fall as well. Btw I also went to Lehman in which they have 8-9 prerequisite courses and the cutoff GPA is somewhere around a 3.8 for last semester so if you're considering that then goodluck
It can be tougher to decide what to do if you’re already in the program and then see things happening that affect you that aren’t in your control. I thought I would share what I’m going through along with my cohort. By all means, apply. Best of luck to you.

Yeah I see what you mean but how was it when you started nursing at ciitytech?

Exciting, everything is new and you’re feeling positive. And then our clinical onboarding was delayed for weeks in the first semester. And other little things became more noticeable. My clinical last semester was delayed 5 weeks, because we weren’t set up yet with the hospital and should have been. Every nursing school has things going on with it, no doubt. There is no perfect experience. There is a difference between difficult material and learning how to critically think and then dealing with administrative issues that impact you and stress you further. I know students who have been set back until August through no fault of their and don’t know what to do. Someone passed around a petition last semester and students were signing it; there was an closed forum to discuss student complaints. Nothing changes.

Oh damn that sounds like stress on top of stress. Are you almost done or how many semesters do you have left?

No. Two more semesters to go. We had a chance to air our grievances to the new chair today. She’s empathetic but basically it was a very full room of very gripey students.

Hey! Do you think that things are going to be better with the new chair? Should I start at city tech and try it out before making any decisions? As a current student, what would you recommend or advise? At this point, I am wondering if I should transfer. I am looking into farmingdale state college. However, that program is only for the Spring. So I was thinking of doing one semester of the nursing program here at city tech next fall (if I get in). Then making a decision to if I should transfer or not.

She had us write three strengths and weaknesses about the program and spent an hour listening to students vent about our issues. No word yet on any positive outcomes from this. I will say this; she told us this program has a 58% pass rate. Now, she chaired 2 other CUNY nursing programs previously (wouldn’t tell us which ones) but says one of them has a 90% pass rate. She agreed that 58% is very low and they’re trying to make changes to help retain students. 58% is terrible.

Well that sounds hopeful. She has an impressive resume.
