City College of San Francisco (CCSF) applicants 2024

Published

I know I'm not the only one not-so patiently waiting for May to come. Thought I'd get this thread going so we can all connect.

Keep calling and they pretty much said they'll be sending out emails through Friday. Still haven't heard anything yet...anyone know how many spots are still open?

Received an email this morning saying I was placed on the standby list :( I am so devastated about the news. I believe I scored at least 75 points for my application. The email did not state what number I am on the waitlist either. Trying very hard to not feel discouraged. Has anyone received an email today as well regarding their application?

I received the email this morning around 11am. They did not say where I was on the waitlist. Here is what it said:

Dear Applicant:

We are writing to inform you that you have been placed on the Applicant Standby list for the City College of San Francisco Registered Nursing Program for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.  Applicants will be selected from both the multi-criteria and lottery lists.

Should a vacancy arise, we will promptly notify you via your CCSF email or telephone. Please note that the standby list does not carry over to the next application cycle. If you wish to reapply, the application filing period typically occurs once a year, from mid-January to mid-February, for the subsequent Fall and Spring semesters.

I've already written the program off. I also have to work full-time and am a mother of two.  I'm trying to see this as the universe wants something more for me. Maybe I'm meant to do more, like be a PA? IDK. I figure that continuing on as a bio major at SF State will only help me. I would have much rather entered the nursing program and be out there in the field in two years, but I guess it isn't in the stars for me.

I received the same exact email this morning. I feel the same exact way that you feel since we both worked really hard and didn't get an acceptance. Hopefully a spot opens up for us! I read the thread from last year for 2023 applicants and someone got called off the waitlist a couple days before orientation in June and someone got called off the waitlist in September and December for Spring cohort. I'm planning to email them to see if they'll tell me where I rank on the waitlist. You're not alone in all of this!

Forward motion, that's all we can do. I feel like the cards will fall where they're meant to. Or at least that's what I tell myself to get through the day. Also, getting into the field after graduating is extremely difficult. No jobs without experience and no experience without a job. Only hope is a residency after graduation and those programs are even more heavily impacted and require a multi year commitment. That's what I'm hearing from friends anyway. Best of luck to you Mama.

Yes, I saw that, too! It is disheartening to see people with super-low scores get in. I'm not trying to be mean, but why is this program lottery? Before I applied, I called the nursing department and asked if it would still be solely merit-based, and they confirmed that it was. I wish I had that in writing.  It sucks, too, because I wanted to also apply to SF State's BSN program, but I was not allowed to.  I had to choose either CCSF ADN to BSN or SF State BSN, which doesn't make sense.  I would not have applied to CCSF if I knew it was a lottery. I would have only applied to the state and waited to apply to other CSUs when the application period came up.  I feel like the nursing department misled me.  Why choose people that didn't perform well?  The program is impacted, so why not choose those who have proven themselves to perform well under pressure and score well, those who will most likely make it through to the end?  If a student doesn't make it through to the end, it wastes their time.

I'm sure my writing will upset those who got in via the lottery system, but this is how I feel.  If it is a lottery, then why try at all?

Please let me know if you hear anything from them regarding your position on the waitlist.  I'm afraid to call as I am sure they are getting bombarded by anxious students. LOL. I heard that they were telling people their place in line last year.  There should be a place on the website that shows where you are on the list; that way, we wouldn't have to bother them so much!

I got accepted into fall 2024!

I just wanted to get on here & say don't lose hope. I didn't even pass my TEAS so it must have been lottery. I have a 3.0 GPA. & although I have 11 years of Medical assistant experience my points were low like maybe 50. this is a miracle! My first try and I am in! Look at God!

congrats to everyone who has gotten accepted & to those who are still waiting, good things come to those who wait. Have faith your time is coming!

sending positive vibes & good energy!

I thought the prerequisites for applying for the program were a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a TEAS score of at least 68. If you didn't pass the TEAS with a 68, how was your application even accepted?

I've been trying to put into words how I feel about all this and you've said everything that has been going through my mind. Definitely feels really unfair since it's lotto because someone who scored super low has the same opportunities as someone who scored super high. I'm sure the nursing dept is struggling to keep up with all the students trying to get an answer haha will keep everyone updated on whether or not they reach back out to me about my position on the waitlist. I wonder if they'll give me an answer on how many points I actually scored on the multicriteria list as well.

If they didn't pass but got accepted into the program, I believe they get a chance to retake it again. I think that's what I read on the ccsf website but I might be wrong.

You can go onto the website and look at how many points you got.

When did you receive your waitlist notice and did they give you a placement number? Don't lose hope, I feel like some people are still waiting to hear from other programs. A friend of mine was #51 on the waitlist a couple years back and got in. Not that any two years are alike but there's still hope.

I agree that it's a bit depressing. I have not received any correspondence from the nursing dept and would appreciate if they'd put me out of my misery already. While my points were lacking a degree and experience, I have busted my *** as a full time employee and mom of two for my pre req 4.0 and TEAS score. I was crazy only applying to one program. My pre reqs will start to expire next year so I will likely reapply and also apply to some local RT programs that don't have recency requirements. In the meantime I have to work to feed my fam.

I'm that friend. Don't lose hope. I got in from the wait list. Also I saw people wanted to register for classes. You don't have too they do it for you. It's one big class! If anyone wants to email me with questions. Feel free. Good luck everyone.
