Chronic Procrastinators' Thread

Published

I'm convinced that I have chronic procrastination. It's probably the reason, the root of all my other learning symptoms (self-diagnosed ADD, nervous wreck in presentations). I don't know what it is... when I plan to do all my homework for all my pre-reqs, it's all fine & dandy but when it comes to the day that they have to be done, I freeze & loose the will to do it & then I do it the night before they're due. The panic effect is almost too intoxicating. Anyone else a chronic procrastinator?

It's funny that this thread came up because I was just wondering today is procrastination a sign of burn out? I am having the hardest time staying focused on studying, I know it has something to do with being home. I never fall asleep or see what on TV in the library:rolleyes:

A burn out? I think not. Those are reserved for the actual nursing program. But these pre-reqs have a way with lowering your spirits.

After taking about 30 hrs of pre-reqs over just to get an "A" and then get accepted to a program and they decided to change the curriculum and now you need 10 hours before you can even start the nursing curriculum...

PRE-WRECK BURNOUT

but it will be all worth it in the end!!!

You got A's for all of your pre-reqs!!!

Everything except College Algebra I took it three times every time I got an "C" and one Government class (I do not like government) the College Algebra kept me out of the ADN program here...one class determines your destiny!:uhoh21: :uhoh21:

I wish I had that standard. I developed a bad habit of being "okay" with a damn C grade. I should do something about it... but what. By the way, what nursing school is that you're coming from. College Algebra is also dragging me.

I procrastinate as well...but when I actually do get in the mood and study, I get a lot done. :p I just try to do a little bit each day...but some days it's harder than others. :p

Oh brother, I am the QUEEN of procrastination!!!! Right now I should be doing my chem lab work, studing the muscles & studying my anatomy lecture notes. See, I ALWAYS write out a list & i never accomplish what I set out to do until the last minute. Seriously, I daydream way too much. Is that wierd? I mean I will have to do some hw that can make or break me but I end up spending my time daydreaming about moving to chicago or something!! I wait for the last minute to do anything & my husband hates that!!!! oh, & of course being addicted to myspace & allnurses doesn't help!

Wow, am I glad I found this thread. I'm a big procrastinator and I was having serious doubts if I should even consider pursuing nursing since time management and prioritizing is such a big part of the job. I keep thinking, you're not even in nursing school yet and look, this isn't getting done and that's not getting done, and you're not on top of this and that, how will you manage. I've been trying to give myself trial runs of working a twelve-hour shift - doing all my housework and other work all day, not taking breaks, not wasting time. It does help me psyche myself and get me more in the groove!

Interesting concept...doing 12 hrs of housework or whatever to see if you can actuall do it! I like that. :) I think this evening might be a semi-all-nighter for myself, to get this math done and turned in tomorow! :D But at least I got one essay finished to turn in tomorow!

It's not that hard to work 12 hours straight since I have 5 kids... Thank G-d none of them are sickly. Maybe nurse-moms can chime in here - is it harder taking care of 5 patients or 5 active children?

I know exactly what you mean. My house could be a wreck, as soon as I have a test................It's spic and span. I've noticed that's my thing, I clean when I have alot of studying to do. Hey, at least my house is sparkling around midterms.

MY TWIN! All this time and I didn't know I had one!

(Seriously, I have to LIMIT my time online, or I never get any studying done....)

Sis

ps. Chaya, not a nurse, but I would think that taking care of 5 immobile people would be way easier than taking care of 5 highly mobile people, who also want you to stop what you are doing and drive them to this and that as well......:)
