Chronic Procrastinators' Thread

Published

I'm convinced that I have chronic procrastination. It's probably the reason, the root of all my other learning symptoms (self-diagnosed ADD, nervous wreck in presentations). I don't know what it is... when I plan to do all my homework for all my pre-reqs, it's all fine & dandy but when it comes to the day that they have to be done, I freeze & loose the will to do it & then I do it the night before they're due. The panic effect is almost too intoxicating. Anyone else a chronic procrastinator?

I want to answer this, but I'll come back later.

I think we all need to focus, learn how to not procrastinate, schedule out time...etc

Maybe if you white a schedule out, you'll spread the workload out over a period of a few days.

Good luck!!!!

I start out with good intentions, but then I get on Allnurses and the time flies by. I really need to start setting a timer when I log in.

Put up a reward system for yourself, each time you accomplish something on time put a little star on the chart which you put on your refrigerator or your bathroom mirror. Make your efforts visible this way. by the end of the week, treat yourself to something special. this method works well on my kids.

When it comes to school I don't procrastinate at all, it's rather the opposite! But boy anything else....like medical checkups and the dentist in particular....you've got to hit me over the head and drag me :chuckle

I usually make a list of everything i'd like/need to do for the day:

clean kitchen

study for xx minutes

nordictrack

bills

fishing

grocery shopping

Then, I pick the most important thing first, finish it and cross it out. If I have anything left on the list, I do that first the next day.

I always run into problems on the days that I have a lot of time on my hands. Those are the days where I sleep in, watch HGTV, take it easy. Those are the days that I find myself procrastinating. I have problems procrastinating when writing papers! I'll give myself too much time!! I want things to be so perfect.

My motto is "God put me on this Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die."

Seriously, I'm one of the biggest procrastinators ever. I can't tell you HOW much stupid debt and bad credit I have simply because I put a bill to the side and never went back for it.

As far as school goes, since high school, I have never started a paper (whether it be one page or 15) earlier than 9 or 10 pm the night before. I must be doing something right though..always get the A! :clown: :roll

I know exactly what you mean. My house could be a wreck, as soon as I have a test................It's spic and span. I've noticed that's my thing, I clean when I have alot of studying to do. Hey, at least my house is sparkling around midterms:rolleyes:

Reading all this stuff on ADD I am seriously thinking I may have it. trying to muster up to make an appt with a doc to discuss it.

I procrastinate too. Sitting here online instead of studying my veins and arteries!!!

I probably fall into this club. I always start with the best of intentions and then something comes up or I get sidetracked and before I know it I *have* to have it done and I am almost out of time. In most cases I can wing it but looking at nursing school starting (hopefully in the fall) I am VERY nervous about my previous track record.

I like the way you put it Peachy... I think the two of us will live forever at the rate we are going :roll

Yes we start with the best intentions to get things done & that was my plan, to do all the assignments of all my four subjects (currently taking 14 units) but then my little sister made me "help" her with her gameboy advance & then that was it, all of my six off days have been spent by being sidetracked by a gameboy.

sorry i'm a few days late getting to answer this. chronic procrastinator here. you are not alone. the first step in getting a hold over this problem is to realize that you tend to do it. then, you have to kind of self talk yourself into getting the most important things done. i am at my worst at home where i will tend to let things sit around undone because i know there is no one to get behind me with a whip to "motivate" me. at work it's a different story. we all have our little problems to overcome, however.

this site has a section on overcoming procrastination that you might like to check out.

I'm definitely a bit of a "chronic procrastinator". This is a self-diagnosis of course:mad: . I always manage to do well even with my procrastination (thankfully), but I think--no I KNOW it does contribute to much unecessary stress on my part. I am continuously saying I am going to improve on the procrastinating, but interestingly this is yet to happen:rolleyes: .
