Christmast wish list for pre-nursing students

I'll be starting nursing school in June of 2007 (U. of Colorado Health Sciences Center.) Anyone have any suggestions on what to ask for at Christmas this year, in order to save myself a little money? Thanks everyone!

I just asked for a gift card to somewhere like Office Max/ Depot from my MIL. I figure that I can then buy supplies as I need them. I am also turning the bedroom that is currently a junkroom into a study. So will probably buy stuff for that as well. Maybe you could ask for a NCLEX book or other study guides, a PDA, a stethoscope, shoes for clinicals, etc.

  • Giftcards to Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble. You can often find textbooks there, as well as lots of other excellent books for your own personal reference (I really like the Nursing Made Incredibly Easy series and also use the Saunders NCLEX Review on a regular basis).
  • A good stethoscope.
  • Pens. I have a favorite pen for clinicals that is retractable, fine point, and soft grip. A box of those would be a great gift.
  • Health club membership. And if you do get one, use it!
  • Blood pressure cuff. We weren't required to buy one, but it's nice to have your own so you can practice taking BPs on your family and friends.
  • If you use flashcards when you study, Mindbinders would be a nice stocking stuffer. They are small cards on a ring. I use them for memorizing medical terminilogy. myndology :: good thinking
  • A watch with a second hand-if you don't already have one.
  • Pen lights. I have two because someone is always wanting to borrow one.
  • Good socks for clinicals. Mine are New Balance and have anti-blister technology.
  • A spare backpack. I have one for clinicals and one for lecture. They are both always packed with the basics so that I don't have to change back and forth every day. Reduces the risk that I'll forget something.
  • Highlighters and those little colored sticky flags for textbooks.
  • A calculator for drug conversions. And lots of pencils.
  • Protein bars, lip balm, and breath mints for your pocket at clinicals make nice stocking stuffers.

Lots of printer ink, a PDA, a GC for the spa, you'll next a good stress buster down the road.

I got my Littman Cardiology III stethoscope for Christmas - best gift in the world (I would have never been able to afford it on my own)! As an added bonus, everytime I saw it in my room I would think "I'm actually going to be using that thing!" It kept my spirits up because I still had some prereqs to do at the time.

As an added bonus, everytime I saw it in my room I would think "I'm actually going to be using that thing!" It kept my spirits up because I still had some prereqs to do at the time.

lol I keep thinking about getting my stehoscope but I am superstitious and won't buy it till I get into nursing the day I get my letter it will be my presant to me LOL
