Merry Christmas to one and all!
Beautiful pic of the pileated woodpecker, Joe! He has a look in his eye, of SERIOUS bug-searching; really tearing into that tree!
TMB~ When I lived in Nashville we had a stupid woodpecker in the neighborhood that consistently tried to peck into a metal pole, and what a noise!
Got a tin full of some homemade cookies from our good neighbor. Had to get up and sample a piece of each of the four kinds of cookies around 3 AM! Very YUM!
The BBQ supper last night was good, not tough and chewy like I was expecting it to be. Also had small slices of a chocolate mud pie, coconut cake, and pecan cake.
Going to get Nannie up now. Tawk whichoo-alls laydah!
Good day and Merry Christmas!!
Tweety, I'll bet you were just floored to receive that early BD present! What a nice gift!! Now I look forward to hearing about plans, and then seeing pics as you two travel!
Joe, love the woodpecker photo!
Well, I caught whatever dh has. He says it's a flu, yet it feels more like a cold. So far is light, but I definitely coughed and sniffled last night. And wheezed, so I took a puff on an inhaler. I was able to sleep for a few hours, sitting up. I think we will cancel dinner reservations today, and just do it another time, when we both feel better. Ds knows that is a possibility, and he is OK with rescheduling.
It should be in the mid-60's today, and clear. We have no real plans for today. We watched Holiday Inn last night, and today I want to watch The Shop Around the Corner (1940), with (a very young!) Jimmy Stewart. It is such a sweet film, and I don't think dh has ever seen it. There was a remake done in 1949 starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson, and named In the Good Old Summertime. That one is good too! Also, it was made again in 1998 as You've Got Mail, with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. I have never seen the 1998 version.
Anyway, I hope for a nice Christmas Day for you all! (Tweety, hope work is without drama)
Merry Christmas all! Spent most of yesterday baking,,cookies, pies, and scones. And chopped and sautéed veg for dressing. Went over to SiL's to visit with that side of the family. Then home to watch it's a Wonderful Life(yearly tradition). Stockings were miraculously filled when we got up. Dd spent the night with grandsons and her dog. Rhodes cinnamon rolls for breaky. Dinner later this afternoon. A chickadee flew into the house this am.
Last night we watched one of my favorite Holiday movies, Christmas In Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck; She is in another romantic Christmas movie (can't remember the title) with Fred MacMurray, which I also love. Her character stole some jewelry and Fred was the prosecutor who ended up taking her to his Mom's house for Christmas, so she didn't have to spend the holiday in lock-up. (NOT the movie she's in with him and they plot to kill off her husband. THAT one is not Christmas-y at ALL!) and The Minister's Wife with Cary Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young. I will watch those movies every year.
SiL dropped by with some lasagna for our suppers, and...something else. I haven't looked under the lid of that container yet. We won't have to do anything for meals except reheating, for at least 3 evenings! Nannie got two pairs of fluffy, thick slipper-socks and one pair of beautiful blue slippers that cover the front of her ankles, and have skid-proof soles. If they were size 10 instead of size 5, I would want them for myself! But her blue slippers are safe, since I can't get half my foot in them!
Step dgt. left me a text message----"Merry Christmas" with a Christmas tree emoji. I wanted to say, "Don't stress yourself there, girlie!" But instead, to provoke a bit more of a response, I wrote back the same to her and asked if they'd had much snow. She said, "None. It's raining.".... And that's all she said! Maybe she's upset her father isn't here to send her Christmas money, like the $500 he sent her every year. I had to send her ZILCH, because that is exactly as much as I have this year. Oh well! She won't be very happy that I will be changing my Will soon! I don't want her to be my only beneficiary and I sure DON'T want her being my Power of Attorney, or my Executrix! Not sure how I will divide things up, but I am not leaving her everything like Nannie left it to hubby and me. I suppose she is hoping to inherit the house and property and rake in the $$$ from its sale, but uh-uh, that ain't happening. I am not going to totally cheat her, but I think she is unrealistic about the portion of what she thinks is due to her. Guess she'll end up hating me, but who cares? What has she done for me, ever? ....Or especially her Dad while he was still among us and needed her help? Did she give him any help? No. Ya reap what ya sow, honey, y'know?
Nannie is beginning her post-prandial nap, which means I can soon go upstairs and do more prep for moving to the bigger bedroom. Last night I carried down the slats, sideboards, and footboard of the 4 poster bed, and when she came by, SiL helped me bring the headboard down to the 'formal living room'. I have begun sorting the paper piles I have collected into separate boxes: Save, Donate, Sell, or Throw Away. I can go through the stuff I've saved and later on I can file things and set up my desk for an actual purpose, instead of just being there collecting dust (and papers and receipts, etc.) It's going to feel so good to get into a room with SPACE, and be ORGANIZED again. (w00t!)
Great photo, Joe.
Tweety, I hope you have a good day at work and the coworker shows up to do her job.
We all (except Gma) got up when Twin B came home from work this morning. Made waffles then opened what gifts we had that could be wrapped. (Hubs' welder was not one of those). Played our 2 new games: Exploding Kittens and Poetry for Neanderthals. Then got Gma up and made dinner. Now I'm feeling dozey. Need to call brother, sister, and stepdaughter. Not sure why I find that so stressful.

Probably for the same reason I find it stressful ! We aren't phone fans. Seems like my 2 bros. seldom have much to say, and it's always a relief to say good-bye, My sister talks about how much she has to do to clean up (she denies being a hoarder) and they have a lot of problems with their vehicles, plumbing, etc. Her trailer is slowly falling apart and the state of the hilly dirt and stones driveway, which they have to clear by shovels sometimes, so the fuel truck can get up the hill. OY! And a very 'merry' Christmas to them!
Merry Christmas!
Nice picture Joe!
I had to Google Rhodes cinnamon rolls. Looks yummy.
I'm having my traditional Chinese take-out Christmas dinner. We have a free x-mass meal at work that was good. The CEO stopped by to give candy while I was standing up at the nurses station eating. I said "you don't see me". He said "I see nothing".
Work was usual med-surg hell but I've had worse. ER was really busy. We admitted five patients and night was getting four as I was leaving. My coworker showed up and she did sound a little congested and said she wasn't feeling well. Hospital went on lockdown when someone went through the metal detector with a concealed carry weapon. I'm sure if DeSantis has his way bringing a gun to the hospital will be okay one day.
Off only one day. Ugh........
Rhodes cinnamon rolls are indeed yummy.
Twin A had a wreck on the way home tonight. Rear-ended another vehicle on the interstate. No injuries. Both cars totalled. He is very upset and feels like failure has plagued him. I've been worried about him making this drive since he started doing it nearly 2 years ago.
Full disclosure: in May of 2012 and May 2013 he totalled vehicles by running into the back of other vehicles. He definitely has ADHD and takes meds for it. I don't know. Hubs is fit to be tied. I pointed out that it has been over 10 years. Hubs doesn't care.
So here we get to the part where stepson's rants get into my head: the other day he called me an enabler. Mostly referring to his dad's failures but I suppose to the boys' as well.
Enough. Enough.

Dianah hope you slept better last night
Hi TMB
Tweety wow that's an amazing gift
Stars that is great news
Ado I think I've had that same realization
NRSKaren that's a big collection of ornaments
Merry Christmas everyone
My Christmas Eve proved to be quite busy. Went bird watching in the morning and saw a pileated woodpecker and managed to get a picture with the new camera. Then went to church and helped with church decoration after the service
Then went to my dad's in the afternoon to meet my sister and family to exchange gifts. Which took longer than expected as they were late as usual. Then went to my cousin's house afterwards, was a more lively crowd than Thanksgiving as there were more people there. Though did end up staying later than I intended, so I was pretty tired when I got home. Had just enough time to read and go to bed
Today I will do more birdwatching, as it looks like the rain will probably hold off until the afternoon. Will do a little cooking later. Everything else is kinda TBD, was not expecting to have time to get outside today. Might drive out to my aunt's old house where we used to have Christmas. Will watch A Charlie Brown Christmas as usual
Will be another unusually warm day here in the mid 50s
