Chop Nurse Resident 2023

Published

Hi Everyone!

Wanted to start a thread to meet and chat with any new nurses starting the ICU nurse residency this Spring (April 2023).  I'll be in the Nicu East!

I got an email last week saying that I got a phone interview with them. I am not sure what the difference between this and a one way interview is? I'm so excited but also nervous! If anyone had a phone interview do you mind sharing what questions they asked? Best of luck to everyone else interviewing as well, hope to be work buddies soon LOL.

Hi everyone! Found this thread found a few days ago and have been reading through it to get a better understanding of the CHOP hiring process. I applied a week ago and was invited to do a one-way interview. Working at CHOP would be a DREAM for me!! So I was wondering if anyone had any tips for the one-way interview? Any hard questions? Do they allow redos? Thanks so much guys ?

Congratulations & good luck on the whole process! I think the main question they asked was why do you want to work at CHOP & they asked for unit preferences. I don't recall being given a chance to redo.

The phone interview was with a recruiter basically asking situational questions, why CHOP, and informing you of the pay & discussing possible units. The one way interview is a link they send you to record a video of yourself answering a question to basically put a face to your application & get to know more about you ?

@Tmicale the phone interview is basically asking you about your past experiences (if you've worked as a nurse on any unit), situational questions like mentioned, and how much new residents get paid which is about 39 dollars base not including night differentials. After you've been there for a year, it goes up to 46 dollars an hour, I would just think of certain situational questions and develop questions. One may be how would you handle a rude patient or possibly a rude parent? Another question would be are you a team player?, how would you help another coworker on the unit? If you catch a coworker breaking protocols what would you do? (Would you report to management or just say nothing? etc etc)

Okay, same for me. I'll keep you posted ?

Any updates you guys?

Been about 5 weeks since I heard anything. CHOP usually takes a while to get back but I'm trying not to lose hope!

I have an in person interview for the PICU on June 19th I'm so nervous this is literally my dream job! They mentioned shadowing also but I'm not sure how that would work. Did anyone shadow?
