Myers-Brigg personality test....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

Hi Everyone..I thought it would be fun if we took the Myers-Brigg personality test and shared with everyone what our specialty is or what we hope to do (if not yet a nurse or want to change jobs). If you're confused maybe this can help. For example...as an INFP (introverted, intuitive, feeling, peceiving) I would be more suited to work in mental health, public health or oncology. I would not work out so well in the ER, OR or medical surgical. I knew all this but the description just makes me more confident that my intuition about myself was probably right on. HERE'S ANOTHER INTERESTING LINK TO CHECK OUT INFO ABOUT YOUR TYPE!!!! :)

I think it helps to get some insight to your natural temparament and to keep it in mind in choosing your work setting. I know it's not the end all and be all but it's a tool that can be used and it could be helpful. I hope others find this at least a little hepful.

I posted this before but it was moved to the breakroom so maybe this time it wll get a better response. I love this forum..you guys are great!

I'm an INFJ too! Counselor Idealist. How does that relate in nursing specialties?

Thanks for posting this--it was fun!

ISFJ. The description was right on. I don't understand what the numbers mean though. Can someone help out a confused person here??

I haven't been able to find a niche in nursing... I enjoyed public health and research most in school. I preferred the detailed focus of ICU over the multiple patient juggling of med-surg. I enjoyed educating and comforting patients but was all to aware of my lack of knowledge and experience. In doing follow-up for a community clinic, I found myself enjoying manipulating the database and developing more efficient workflow. I taught English as a second language and enjoyed making it engaging and relevant for the learners. I also wanted to more involved in the overall curriculum development but had no opportunity. I currently work on a health resources database which involves reviewing lots of literature. My mind is always thinking of ways to improve on the system and the product. I'm very aware of big picture issues (nursing shortage, impacted nursing programs, underinsured people, etc) and like to discuss them but am not a take charge kind of person to actually take an active role... besides, as soon as I begin focusing on one area, my interest is perked in a different area. I enjoy philosophical discussion as long as we can bring it back down the real world at some point. I enjoy planning trips, setting an itinerary and finding good deals. Anyone relate to this? What do you do?

12 Slightly expressed sensing personality

22 Slightly expressed judging personality

Provider Guardians take it upon themselves to arrange for the health and welfare of those in their care, but they are also the most sociable of all the Guardians, and thus are the great nurturers of established institutions such as schools, businesses, churches, social clubs, and civic groups

Maybe I should have stuck with teaching...I used to be an elementary Ed teacher...good thing there's lots of teaching in nursing;)

Providers are skilled in maintaining teamwork among their helpers, and are also tireless in their attention to the details of furnishing goods and services

Yup..that's me...I was a darn good waitress:lol2:

Providers are extremely sensitive to the feelings of others, which makes them perhaps the most sympathetic of all the types, but which also leaves them rather self-conscious, that is, highly sensitive to what others think of them

Sometimes I'm afraid to post because I care about what you all think of me I really do much better in person.

This same characteristic causes them to be good in many people-to-people jobs, as teachers, clergy, coaches, social workers, office receptionists, and so on.

Good thing nursing is a people to people job! Guess I'll do OK as long as there are people there..LOL

This was fun! Thanks.

I am ISFJ. I was a nurse, an elementary school teacher, then nurse. Why did you leave teaching?

Even though I am an ISFJ, I like to do what you like to do. If you like philosophical discussions, go for your MS in nursing. That's what I am doing, and I love the online discussions in the theory course that I am taking now.

Is anyone an ISFJ? If so, what kind of nursing do you do? Like the last poster, I keep changing my mind. I like so many different areas. There is so much open to nurses now. Thanks.
