Okay so ive decided that im going to start off at a two year CC my 3 choices are queensborough CC Laguardia CC and Bronx CC . Does anyone know of these schools and which one i should go to? I heard queensborough has a good nursing department better then laguardia CC and bronx CC.... Im having trouble deciding where i should go and i have to make my decision before may 1st What do you think?!?

I currently attend Queensborough, finishing up pre-clinicals. Though you may need a 3.0 to apply to the program, from what I understand you must have a much higher GPA than that to actually get in to it, same goes for LaGuardia. Very few seats compared to amount of applicants.

From what I hear, Queensborough is the better choice, and you have more of a chance of being hired coming from Queensborough than LaGuardia, but both programs are very competitive.

I don't know about the Bronx.

Good luck.

Thank you guys for answering. I made queensborough my final choice. I liked the feel of queens once i had went to visit the campus and heard good reviews about the school from others. And im actually going next week to schedule my classes for fall semester :chair:

Congrats on your decision!

:yeah:

take note that at the CUNY/SUNY schools, the tuition is ultra-low vs private schools, and the quality of the education is high (for most schools anyway) -- so the competition for the few available seats is brutal.

SUNY Downstate for example had 500+ applicants for 40 or so seats.

Laguardia CC usually has 300/400 applicants for 40-50 seats in the RN program. BMCC is even worse. So when the literature says C+ or better average in the pre-reqs, thats technically true, but admission in most is purely based on GPA ranked top to bottom. So a 3.7 or better is more realistic (A- vs the literature's C+).

I am a student at Kingsborough CC, But Network with students from schools.. From my understanding ALL 3 school are really GOOD! Laguardia and Queensborough are extremely competitive. To get into their programs you MUST keep at least a 3.7-3.8 gpa, and score very high on the NLN..

From what i understand all nursing programs are competitive lol so either way theres no easy way out. I ended up picking queensborough :) thank you for commenting.

Graduated from Bronx Community College, entrance was highly competitive, program was so tough, started out with 50 or 60 students in my class graduated about 20, many people repeat a class, only one or your out, they use to have an appeal for second repeat but from what I hear no gets granted an appeal anymore, the professors are tough, really tough and the program is a nightmare, but now that I am out I realize how much I know technically compared to other grads, but I am sure all teh CUNY schools are tough to get in, tough to stay in, tough to graduate

Can't speak for the rest of the CUNY community colleges but LaGuardia is not only competitive to get into but they are incredibly disorganized and simply do things to make you fail - hence the super low graduation rates and their poor nclex performance rates. you pretty much have to learn everything on your own. first 2 semesters practically unapproachable teaching method and they read the power points to you - apparently that's a fantastic teaching method. anyways if you can avoid the ADN you should just go straight for your BSN. new york is changing their requirements in a few years.

Yes i heard LCC wasnt good, i never went to visit jst by looking at it when i was in the 7 train i didnt like it lolol i ended up choosing qcc just finished a summer class, i like the college so far only thing that sucks is the admissions office if you dont take care and be on top of your billing accounts and all that stuff theyll try to rob u for ur $$ lol but other then tht the college is fine bayside area is lovely and ppl are quiet.

Good day everyone. I haven't seen any threads on Hostos Community College nursing students and I was wondering have anyone applied to the day and evening program? I just finished all my prerequisit and hopefully I will be accepted into the program for the Spring 2012 semester. My overrall G.P.A is 3.47 at Hostos and this will be a career changed for me. I have a BS degree in another field and I decided to enter the field of nursing. I have been in the health care field for over 10+ years in the Managed Care field working for 2 well known health insurance company. I love what I do but I always had a passion in working with ill. I was a home-attendant, and a direct care counselor awhile back and being behind a desk job is not something I would like to do for the rest of my life. I have a few questions, in hopes I would received some type of response.

1) Is the program at Hostos competitive unlike some CUNY nursing program?

2) Is there a waiting list?

3) What and where are the clinicals?

4) I am interesting in the new grad turnaround after job placement.

Hi mb1949. I currently go to BCC & am applying to enter the RN program for fall '16. Hopefully, once I pass my TEAS all will go as planned. I've read some of your posts & you've been through what I have planned for myself. I want to get my ADN from BCC & then go to Lehman for my BSN. Do you have any word of advice or tips for either program?? Any information would be appreciated! Thank you :)

I know people that attended Bronx and all they do is complain about how many students have gotten kicked out since the program started. They started with 100 and go down to like 20 by graduation. My friends have both repeated courses, and from what they say it's pretty common there.

Being removed for failure to meet academic standards is common enough to all nursing programs public and private. Some CUNY programs may have a higher number of such dismissals than others, but still.

I've seen graduating classes where only

That being said think BCC has it's own set of issues going beyond the nursing program.
