CHOC RN Residency/Fellowship Feb 2020

Nurses New Nurse

Hi fellow nurses! I am Sherry and I applied to the CHOC fellowship for multi specialty area recently & was just wondering if anyone else has applied for it too?

i graduated in May 2017 so technically I’m not considered a new grad, but I’ve never actually worked in an acute care as a RN, only outpatient. so technically I’m a stale new grad? it’s super difficult to make it in the hospital w/o acute care experience, so I decided to apply to the fellowship!

wondering if anyone is on the same boat?

I got in touch with someone at HR. I didn’t get the fellowship with Multispecialty. She said they have already reached out to everyone who was selected. (Not sure if it’s all units or just the MSU).

Does anyone know if there is a time limit to apply to CHOC’s new grad program? Like if I graduated in May 2019, can I still apply to their fall 2020 cohort?

They had applications open from November 1-5th and then interviews 2 weeks ago. They will have another application around early May 2020. I hope this information helps.

Yes, I know about this. My question was more related to a time limit of when you apply. I know some programs say you have to of graduated from college in a year or less to apply, some say you have to of graduated in the past two years, and some don’t have a limit.

I dont think CHOC has a time limit from graduation, just the amount of RN experience one has but this is not stated on the website. I would contact HR and inquire?? I am also in a similar situation, I graduated in Feb 2019 and was waiting on NICU at Mission (last round/s didn't have that unit/location so this was the first time I could apply since graduating.)

Most new grad programs in California want you to be graduated within a year from a qualified school and with less than 6 months of RN floor experience. After 6 months of floor experience then it looks like you have to wait a year and apply to the fellowship program. But HR would know more of the details. Wish there were more application opportunities than twice a year.

Just got denied by CHOC NICU mission! Good luck to everyone!!!

Did you get an email?

I got an email and my status changed to 'process completed.' I also applied to CHOC NICU @ Mission. Wishing everyone luck on this journey! We'll all get there. ?

I just the email that I was denied by CHOC NICU at Mission too. Of all days, they email us the bad news on Christmas Eve. Just have to pray and know that it wasn’t meant to be and there is another job out there for me. Good luck to everyone!

Did CHOC NICU interview or hire anyone yet?

I interviewed for PICU last week and received a call the following day with an informal offer from the PICU hiring manager. HR called me earlier today and let me know the timeline of the program, discussed pay, and the process of hiring.

Hey I was wondering if you didnt mind sharing what the starting pay is for a New Grad at CHOC?
