china-made swine flu vaccine protects after one shot (update1)
by simeon bennett
aug. 18 (bloomberg) -- swine flu vaccine made in china by sinovac biotech co. is safe and protects people against the pandemic virus after a single shot, according to its developer.
studies showed the inoculation met "international criteria for vaccines" and caused no severe adverse reactions in any of the 1,614 volunteers who received it, sinovac said in an e- mailed statement today. it didn't give details about the efficacy of differing doses or vaccination methods used.
the results are the first reported anywhere in the world on a vaccine to fight the new h1n1 strain that's sparked the first influenza pandemic in 41 years, said beijing-based sinovac, which was created in 2001 to make immunizations for hepatitis. the company is compiling data on the flu shot as soon as possible before seeking regulatory approval for it in china.

I don't have much trust in any products coming out of China.
I can tell you in another report i read that the US will not have the H1N1 vaccine until mid October and they will not have enough per what came out this week.

Yes, even if the vaccine works, who knows what else will be in it? Industrial chemicals?

I so agree. I think I would rather take my chances with the flu than use something from there without huge oversight.......

Me neither-they don't have the best track record for human rights plus it is very vague-not many good old facts and figures there.
They are preliminary results.
"The reported results of the Sinovac trial of H1N1 vaccine hinting at good efficacy after a single inoculation are encouraging," said Lorena Brown, professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Melbourne. "These will be of particular interest when the data are analyzed in terms of age- group, vaccine dose, vaccine form and the requirement for adjuvant, all of which can effect the practicality of vaccine manufacture and use."

"Oh ye of little faith" - and a researcher, at that! :uhoh21:
I agree that monitoring the manufacturing process at each step, by American Public Health specialists would make me somehwat in favor of Chinese production of anything. The problem has been that citations regarding unsafe practices in the past haven't changed behavior of those workers responsible for changing the conditions for which they were cited. Unless workers thoroughly understand what was being done that caused ill effects; and that it won't be tolerated here, manifested by continued change in performance for years, citations don't have the desired effect.
Our trust is earned, promises don't count with me, either.
I like to think of it as "older and wiser" - ha ha!

I was going to say the same thing when I saw the first post. Honestly. Baby formula, pet food, etc. And we're supposed to trust their labs?
Don't forget the toxic lead paint on the children's toys! :)

They are the ones who cause all these flu situations- at least they are trying to do something about it. If they let American scientists inspect and be a part of their process I would accept it, otherwise forget it. The culture is completely lacking in the concept of quality. Who knows what went into their vaccine?

I highly doubt China has anything resembling the US FDA pre-IND/IND/Phase I/II/II drug approval system.
Who did they test the vax efficacy & dosing on? Political prisoners w/ unknown preexisting health issues?
Even if there was a US/Euro/Aussi vax, I'd rather take my chances w/ the actual flu itself.
Knowing ppl who have had pets suffer painful deaths from renal failure due to pet foods w/ ingredients from China, I wouldn't even trust aspirin from China, let alone a vax.
