Its funny you say this since a hospital in my area stated they only are going to hire new grads from ASN or BSN programs no diploma nurses. I was shocked I thought we were the ones that always had the best hands on experience. I guess that is not good enough at this time in the economy crisis but I'm not going to let that get me down..There loss will be someone elses gain. Just move on to bigger and better things to come.

Thank you for this article you wrote. It was wonderful thinking that there are still people out there that think that diploma nurses are worth something. I graduated this last may from one of the last 3 year diploma schools left on the east coast. My school has been around since the late 1890's.My class had 100% pass rate on the NCLEX but there are still places that look down on us here and it is difficult to find a job. I worked 5 years in home care and 3 years in agency before I went the route of getting my RN through a diploma program. and worked three years at the hospital that I went to school at as an SNI. I as a new grad feel completly comfortable to do agency or home care as an RN. I right now am signed up with three agencys and will start work in a little over a week. I have no problems with it and have complete confidence that I will do my job as good as any seasoned RN on the floor. :heartbeatTricia RN:heartbeat

Well then It sounds like you have your ducks in a row since you shadowed someone...you know I had those moments of walking out of class and never coming back in fact I did that the first time I took Anatomy. She was an awful instructor. I walked out of her class and took a W for the class. It took me a year to get up the courage and take it again. Nursing to me is one of the coolist careers you can go into. If you dont like one thing you can go into a completely diffrent direction. I love working in the hospital but if that doesnt work out you can go into forensic science like CSI there is so many things you can do. I love home care to. You will learn in nursing school how to be safe and that will stick with you forever. you can go into politics at a nurse and stand for other nurses. You can even be a part of the Board of Nursing for your state and help make the practice acts. There are so many directions in nursing. Good luck with your choice. I think you should go into nursing.

Have you ever taken the type of test that tests your intersts? We all dream of other things maybe raising kids or being a rock star. It seems to me that you would be a good nurse because Ive read some of your other posts and you seem to have a carring spirit that makes a good nurse. If you question if it is something you will like you can always shadow a nurse or become a CNA or Home health aid. That is a good way to get your feet wet. I was one since 1989. I loved it. But its not for everyone. Also does Kent hospital have that program that if you are a employee for them you get bumped to the head of the line to get into nursing school. I know they worked with CCRI to do the snap program but I dont think that program did so well. Did it do well? Did they have a good class graduate? :heartbeatTricia RN:heartbeat

im glad you found it funny...when you are studding hard in those really hard nursing classes and you are feeling a little stressed out you can come back and look at this and have a nice lol.:heartbeat and believe me you will have those moments. even the best students are stressed but its not a reason to give up just remember that when you think you should. just remember this. dr. randy pausch phd last lecture: "brick walls are there for a reason. they let us prove how badly we want things." rip 7/25/2008 :heartbeattricia rn:heartbeat

I hope it is true for you and your fellow upcoming and future nursing students....and I do not eat my young or nursing students...but I know for a fact of people that are still on the waiting list. for Lincoln and warwick. day and evening... I was on the waiting list since lets see spring of 2005 or 2006 and just got my call to join for this last spring... I already graduated and got my licence. that is a long wait. I know they do not do the official wait list which is a shame in way... because for those that have maybe a 3.0 or less they are almost out of luck to get in to nursing school... Just because you get a C or B in anatomy and physiology does not mean you are going to do poorly in nursing classes so don't let any of the instructors tell you that. I made a C in both and did completely fine in my nursing classes. Of course now you have to make a B or better. If you don't get in there than try some of the other places. there are scholarships out there as well as grants and loans. :heartbeatTricia RN:heartbeat

No whats bad is that ccri misleads individuals and you wait around to get into a nursing program as long as some people do unless you are the perfect little angel with that perfect 4.0 average oh wait you still dont get in. im just keeping it real. Dont put your eggs all in one basket. URI, RIC and STjoes all have great nursing programs too. If you can not get in at CCRI try somewere else. Just because you work there does not count for anything. And Yes CCRI has some great nursing instructors and some really crappy ones to. :heartbeatTricia RN:heartbeat

boy you really are delusional well go ahead and believe that if you like. let me know in a few years when you finally get in and maybe pass because there is a high failure rate not just in this school in all nursing schools. were i went to school we started with 60 and only graduated 29 but we all passed the boards first time to. :heartbeatTricia RN:heartbeat

it does not matter on the campus they have a huge waiting list. The night program has a longer list than the day. :heartbeatTricia RN:heartbeat

hate to burst any of your bubbles but they are not having any problems finding applicants for there rn program, In fact they still have a waiting list of people that they are having to place in these program. :heartbeatTRICIA RN:heartbeat
