Published

I decided to create this thread for anyone applying to Children's Medical Center of Dallas for the July 2016 Nurse Residency Program! Good luck to everyone! If there are any current or past residents that would like to offer any advice, please feel free to do so!!!!! Good luck to everyone applying!

Got a call last Friday and sent my video interview in on Saturday! good luck everyone!!

Specializes in Pediatric Critical Care.
Hey! Where did y'all find the list of floors that they have? I've only been able to find this really detailed list of their specialties https://www.childrens.com/for-healthcare-professionals/departments-institutes-programs

and then this very broad one:

  • 487 beds
  • 334 pediatric
  • 24 medical/surgical
  • 65 critical care
  • 36 NICU
  • 12-bed psych unit
  • more than 50 outpatient specialty centers
  • state-of-the-art emergency center

What are the 334 pediatric beds? Thanks! I just want to be prepared in case they call.

This is worded strangely. Maybe this helps:

There is a medical PICU, and also a trauma PICU each with about 24 beds. Also a CVICU with about 18 beds plus an additional cardiac step down unit (not sure how many beds)

As for non-critical care - some of the floors are just general, but some are more specific - cardiac, pulmonology, GI, renal all have "floors" but of course they overflow to other floors as needed (for instance during flu season, respiratory patients will end up wherever there is an open bed).

Good luck!

Does anybody know when we might hear if we got the in person interview? Had my video interview already and just waiting now. Thanks! Good luck to all

Specializes in CVICU.

I did my video interview last week too. I'm thinking that we will probably hear sometime this coming week if we got an inperson interview. But I don't know for sure.

A friend of mine that got accepted to the February internship said she did not get a call for an in person interview until 3 days before the interview. I would not get my hopes up for next week, but like everything else, it probably goes in waves over a couple week timespan.

I really hope that's not the case... I have to get a flight out to Dallas in that case and it would be super expensive!

They also do Skype interviews!

Yes, they will do a Skype interview for you! I got called February 15th to complete a video interview, which I did! It was really nice to be able to re-record the whole thing. Even though I practiced and prepared, I still got stage fright. Anyway, I am anxiously waiting with the rest of you! :) I chose PICU (goal), CVICU, and Heme/Onc.

Oh man, I somehow missed the whole re-record option! Oh well! Hopefully they give us more heads up, but I was just warning you they may not!

Oh a Skype interview would be amazing! I chose PICU, Trauma ICU, and CVICU :-) Hope to see you there!

I'm more afraid of a Skype interview though. I get phone/ video stage fright--it's weird. I'd rather interview in person!! I was able to tour the PICU, and one of the leads told me that the nurses in the PICU and Trauma ICU often work both units. Which is great in my opinion!

Does anybody know how many people they take?
