Child signature on MAR

Published

I work at a French camp located in Maine. We are accreditated with the Quebec Association of Camps. Last summer, we received the accreditation inspector. He suggested that campers initial their own MAR when receiving their medication. He told us, my camp director and I, that a lot of other camps do this so that children can't lie and say that they haven't or have received their meds when it isn't the fact. I get the idea but don't quite know what to think of it. I am currently uptading all of our documentation so I would love to hear what others think.

Thanks!

I see no harm if they initial in addition to the nurses' initials, but question having them do that instead of the nurse initialing.

I hadn't even tough about that but that would be a great compromise and I think it would better than doing any of the two alone.

Thanks!!!

We had a separate sign-in sheet where campers wrote their name, date, and time. Initialing the MAR sounds like a good system IF your campers are old enough/coordinated enough to put their initials in a box. Some weeks I had kids just out of Kindergarten--taking up 3 lines on the sign-in sheet was fine, but filling up several boxes could cause problems.

It is not a bad idea but they can also lie and say that they did not initial it so I don't think this will solve anything.
