Child abuse index California

Published

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if the BRN in California livescan does a CACI check ontop of the DOJ and FBI? The child abuse index check is an additional check with livescans. The reason im curious is because I was told id be placed on the index in 2011... I was never criminally charged and it was false accusations... Anyways, I am already an RN as of 2018 ( it never came up on my livescan for NCLEX) and its mever come up on any of my hospital jobs background checks and now im curious if im even really named on the caci. I've read other posts on here by nurses where the caci did show up when they were attempting to become a nurse in california but it didn't for me.  Does anyone know for sure if the board really does a caci check?

I know nothing about background checks in California, but if you are using your real name as your user name I urge you to change it ASAP.

Only reports of substantiated cases of abuse should be reported to the Child Abuse Central Index (CACI).  You can verify whether your name has been submitted.

Best wishes.

Yes, I am aware of that. I am just wondering if the livescan to become a nurse includes the central registry check

Thank you but my criminal record is perfect. I've never ever had a ticket. The child abuse registry is an additional check that must be listed on the livescan slip under a code by the entity requesting it. For instance, I know schools, where teachers work with children (the vulnerable population) must be livescaned with the Adam Walsh act added to the employers livescan slip. Foster parents also... However, there is no information on RN CA. Org stating nurses must be livescaned with that additional check, which I find strange since nurses also work with the vulnerable population.

Ill share the reasoning behind my wanting to know. My sister recently abandoned her premature baby at the hospital. He is currently in a placement home. I am trying have him placed with me. Im in the background check process and they check the index so Im curious to know if Im on it. If it comes up on the livescan to become a nurse... Because if it does, than im nit on it. I don't have the time to check with the state of CA since nothing is electronic, its all by mail and can take 30 days... Again this isn't part of the criminal background check. It's an additional check that must be requested on the livescan form. Does anyone have any experience being listed on the CACI and it coming up on your livescan to challenge the NCLEX. If it does come up, than Im not on it and thats great news.

I just went to the site and it doesn't seem that hard to verify if you are on the list. Granted it's not electronic but you simply send a request  by:

Completing the California Department of Justice Child Abuse Central Index Self Inquiry Request form, pdf, including notarization, and mail it to the Department of Justice.

OR

Send a brief notarized letter asking if your name is in the Child Abuse Central Index (CACI). The letter must include:

All the names you have used
Date of birth
Identifying Numbers
Current Address
Previous California Residences

It doesn't say how long it takes to process but it does say that they will not remove your name from this list without a request from the reporting agency. Even if the BON does not livescan from this list it would behoove you to know if you are a listed entity especially if you may be trying to adopt your neice/nephew!

Best of luck to you

Yes, I am aware of the process. It's not hard but it is very lengthy (its california.) By the time I get the answer to my inquiry, I will already know the results of the background check from DCFS who is conducting the homestudy for the placement of my nephew, since their request was sent 2 weeks ago. I thought it might be nice to know if I have already been checked by the BON and im not on it since I was able to become a nurse. Im looking for someone who has been through it.

Thank u
