I wouldn't be surprised if there was a "chicken pox party" held among families in the school for the exact purpose of giving it to their kids and getting it over with so that they are then immune. It's an actual thing among anti-vaxxers.
I mean, my mom did that for me when I was kid, but that was PRE-vaccine. My brother is ten years younger and the vaccine was available for him and she was so excited to never have to attend a chicken pox party again!
(PS: I also just got a minor case from the party; got the full blown terrible ordeal case when I was 13 from kid I babysat. Ew, no thank you! I was also old enough to scratch and scratch and still have some scars. Who wants their kid to go through that?)
