IM TRYING TO DEBATE ON MOVING TO TEXAS. I'VE BEEN IN CHICAGO ALL MY LIFE AND READY FOR A CHANGE. IM TIRED OF CHICAGO'S WINTERS. I DONT HAVE ANYTHING HOLDING ME BACK FROM MOVING. MY CURRENT JOB, I'VE BEEN THERE FOR ALMOST 14 YRS. SO WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT WOULD MAKE ME LOVE TEXAS WHEN I COME TO VISIT THAT'S DIFFERENT FROM CHICAGO? IM LOOKING TOWARDS MAYBE IRVING TEXAS.:nurse:

Moved from Chicago to Euless, Texas. LOVE IT!!! Been here for 4 years. Only one bit of advice: DO NOT MOVE TO IRVING. I hated the 6 months I lived there. Move to the HEB (Hurst, Euless, Bedford) area just west of Irving.

Hi, just wondering. What did you not like about irving?

Thanks for everyone's input. I guess the only way to really know about Texas is to come for a visit, which i plan to do during the summer.

I don't want to upset you or anyone else, but to me Irving seemed dirty and crowded. I am aware that there are different parts of Irving and maybe I just didn't live on a good side? I lived right off 183 near the airport and Walmart. Anyway, didn't mean to offend you.

Won't know for sure until I graduate, but from what I've heard starting out pays around $22/hr. I guess it depends on your personality, but if you like Chicago, go to downtown Dallas. If you like it a little more laid-back, Ft. Worth might be your style. I particularly like the HEB area in between the cities, although Arlington is cool too. I suggest coming down for a week and spend 1/2 the time in Dallas and 1/2 in Ft. Worth and also research job availability here too. I hear the job market is becoming more crowded.

Good luck and god bless y'all :nurse:

Try to visit in August to make sure you can handle the heat, LOL

A big difference between Chicago and Texas is the driving/traffic. In Austin the traffic is crazy. San Antonio is pretty sweet with a massive freeway (just stay off it from 430-6pm). I can't attest to the other Texas cities. One major difference is the use of the inside-fast lane, it just doesn't exist in San Antonio.

I moved from Va. to Texas in '95. The weather is great here in the DFW area, we get tons of sun. Yes, it's hot in the summer but our winters are definitely mild compared to Chicago. We actually had appreciable snow 3 times this winter, though that is definitely NOT the norm.

I work close to downtown Dallas and I love it. My 26 mile commute is all interstate and I can be to work in 20 minutes. I have worked here for 15 years and plan to continue here after graduating from nursing school.
