Who else is taking Chemisrty this semester? I thought maybe we can check in with each other, and help each other out.
If there is enough of us maybe we can even get a sticky.
I am taking Health Science Chemistry 1.
For moving decimals remember this rule:Registered Nurses (RN) Love Patients (LP)
RN = Right Positive
LP = Left Positive
ya mean RN = Right Negative?
and LP = left Positive?
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, for the person that asked, I'm taking 1411, which at my school is General Chemistry.
Good luck with your class! :)
:rotfl: Help! Ok, I have 3 problems I just can not figure out.
1. A sample of lead shot weighing 343.6 g was added to a graduated cylinder partially filled with isopropyl alcohol (enough to immerse the lead completely). As a result, the alcohol level rose 30.3 mL. What is the density of the lead in SI units? (the density of isopropyl alcohol is 0.785 g/cm3)
2. The RDA of calcium is 1200mg. Calcium carbonate contains 12% calcium by mass. How many grams of calcium carbonate are needed to provide the RDA of calcium? Honestly- I know the answer is 10 g but I can not tell you how to get the answer.
3. An office is 4.44m long, 3.48m wide, 2.53 m high. The avg density of air is 1.29 X 10 (exp -3). What is the mass (in kilograms) of the air in the office?
Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

i don't want to do them exaclty since i will probably get it wrong but...for number 3 you want the formula d=m/v. you already have density(although i would put it in expanded form and you have volume by multiplying 4.44x3.48x2.53)
for number 1, again use the density formula d=m/v.
i hope this helps and if i'm wrong....just ignore me!
i love the rn, lp little trick!
i will be using that one!
we had our first quiz on wednesday. i hope i did ok
i am now working on a math review which is no fun! i may be asking for some help so watch out!
:balloons: hope everyone can take a break from studying and enjoy the holiday! :balloons:

Our class is not getting off to a good start. I have a MWF class with the lab on W and on Monday the teacher just went over his past and where he came from and how much he likes Chemistry. Wednesday he didn't bother showing up. He did go to lab though and we just went over safety issues in the lab and than today he just talked about physical and chemical properties which according to his syllabus he should have completed measurements. I stayed up late last night, as did other students after talking with them, doing the homework problems he assigned on Wed. and he never went over them. It was all over measurements. I am just so nervous about this class. I feel like a whole week was wasted. The only thing he said when it was time to go was have a good weekend.

lalajenn, I'm sorry about your class.
I do like my instructor, so I'm lucky at least with that.
Hopefully, it will get better for you. (Does your instructor know there is supposed to be class on W also?)

Ok that was quicker than I expected. Here is the link to Chem Table.
